That's exactly what happened with my 42, slow rewind and bouncing tension arms were the symptoms. The rubber bands on the hub and brake solenoid felt pad were to blame. The felt caused the solenoid to not fully retract hence the brakes were dragging. Works great now that I fixed that.

Hey Cory, did you have trouble changing the caps on the boards? Is the board double sided? I want to recap and maybe swap opamps in my 42, but the board looks intimidating...:confused:

I used DBX when I had my 48. I liked it, the recordings were very quiet, some people do not like NR at all, for me, it could go either way. If you can pick them up cheap, I would try them out. BTW the model is DX-4D, many sellers on fleabay make that mistake as the "D" looks like a "0" :D

Hmmm, that pic does not look stock to me. I had a 34B that IIRC had a board connected to that socket with a few components on it. I guess the best solution is to figure how to make the DBX stay "on" all the time.

$70 is resonable. The parts alone are worth more than that. Like you say, it's good to have some spares when you get another 234. ;)

I have a feeling that it will be difficult to get new parts very soon for these machines, I contacted TEAC for a bunch of parts and none were available. I'm assuming Hubs are still available, but I have heard that they may not be for very long, you may want to stock up while you can!

Too bad. I hate that feeling when I see a box that looks too small for the component. Soft foam sheets like the ones used are not good for packing, too soft. :( It looked like a really nice deck too. I would try to get some money back or file a claim with the buyer.

Interesting stuff, I love brochures. I once had one for the 30 series decks and loved it, the 50 series brochure must be fantastic! Come to think of it, I had one for the BR20 too...I wonder where those darn things are...:(

Hmmm, a "dummy head"? Maybe some models had a head there? Maybe a version of the machine that had another head in place for a different track format??

Man, the MS-16 is such a nice machine, I could only imagine owning one.

I saw that brochure, if it was for the 40 series I would have bit. It's a nice addition for your collection.
