    tascam 38 wierd playback stuff

I had a similar problem with my 34B, I cleaned the contacts and reseated the rec/play cards and it fixed the problem, perhaps that may be the case here?

Here is a Burson discreet opamp I used in my Azuntech prelude sound card. It now does duty in my headphone amp circuit of my Sony ES TA-E80ES analog preamp. Sounds mighty fine, but so does the OPA627 I used to compare it with...

    how much for a tascam 32, 42, or 42b

Yes, I had 4 34B's that I sold off within a few months, I have a ton of photos that I have to sort and maybe put online somewhere. I foolishly sold all my analog record stuff for pennies on the dollar, I just had a fit one day and got rid of all my electronics (don't ask), now I find myself in...

    how much for a tascam 32, 42, or 42b

I lucked out and got (and sold) my 48 locally and now found a 42 a few months ago. It's a great series and are much better overall than the 30 series. Of course, the 50 series is better yet. prices are all over the place. If you can find a mint 42 or 42b, I would opt for that one, 400-500 is a...

    LIAR, LIAR!!! tapeandtape

In my case I did not leave him feedback because the transaction took so long. It took almost 2 months to receive the order and then he ended up sending different reels, he promised to send replacements, but have not received anything yet and now it's too late to give feedback after 2months...so...

Hopefully it's not trashed, that would be a heartache! :(

    Tascam 38 for $750?

The 48 is a great machine, one which I should have kept as well! Mine came with a modified DX-8DS DBX unit, looked really nice as a set. Good thing I wasn't local to you SB, I think I would of have to "relieve" you of that machine! :D

    Tascam series 40 in grey?

I've seen those tape project decks, it looks like a lot of work goes into those, some are a little "loud" for my taste. They also sell for a good chunk of change!

    Tascam series 40 in grey?

If it wouldn't be for the silkscreening, I bet it would be relatively easy to paint the cabinet parts...

    Tascam series 40 in grey?

What do you think? or do you prefer the beige/brown combo? I was having fun in photoshop and thought a two tone grey would look pretty cool, I also added some lighted transport controls for fun. :D

Please critique my first all analog mix...

:) I like it! I also like it when instruments are panned quite a bit, sound great. Vocals are somewhat iffy, I would try and keep the levels lower or use a compressor to avoid too much distortion, but overall, sounds ok, good tune too.

    LIAR, LIAR!!! tapeandtape

I bought the tape in early January and only read this thread after the fact. I contacted him today to say he sent the wrong item and he said he will reship the correct reels asap and to keep the original tapes. So, if I eventually do get the right reel and they are mint as stated, then I guess...

    LIAR, LIAR!!! tapeandtape

I just "finished" a transaction with him. It's a disaster. I wanted some 3M 6 screw reels, so I bid on 3 226 with case, looked new in photos, described like new...Well, 2 months later and after a Paypal claim I finally got them. Of course they were not like the photo, they were the older style...

For mastering ! Tascam,Fostex or Otari

As others have said, all things equal, I would give the Otari a try. However, if you just want to warm up the sound and not track to tape in the first place, then why not try a tube preamp? Tubes can really add some nice warmth and would be much easier to use than tracking to digital then analog...

    TASCAM 34B as mixdown deck

Yes. If you record on tracks 1 and 3 this will make the tape compatible with other 1/4" quarter track consumer tape decks. When I was using my 34b I found I really needed DBX to clean up the tracks. My hiss tolerance is quite low and may not bother you however.
