    Reefer Madness!!

Guitars, bass, and vocals sound pretty good. The vocals are loud, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. You might work to get them sitting a little better in the mix. The main problem I'm hearing is the drum overheads. Is this a real kit or samples? The cymbals sound swirly and...

No, lemon oil. Not the same stuff?

    Guitar build

I use Old English on my rosewood fretboards, including the Jazz bass with a very light board. It makes it look darker initially but the improvement is temporary.

    Devil On a Roll

Thanks for the comments! You're the folks who make this MP3Clinic worthwhile. Plenty drop in as often as they have a song to share and ask for comments. It's you who listen and comment that make it work. I'm on a fence about this song. The lyrics aren't quite there for me yet. I'm getting...

And another reason for flats is never having to buy new strings.

panning mono tracks for stereo mixdown

Some of the classic Doors recordings have the drum kit hard panned to one side in mono. I've tried offsetting the snare slightly, but in the end the minor benefits were not worth the added trouble in achieving a good L-R balance.

panning mono tracks for stereo mixdown

Nothing goes dead center but lead vocal, kick, snare, and bass guitar. YMMV.

    Bad Dreams II

Schmastering seems less extreme than before. Interesting song. What kind of effect is that that's giving the whole mix a wholly texture? Some kind of tube emulation effect on the mix bux? Can't say I care for it. I take it the intelligibility of your lyrics isn't a big priority? I wasn't...

    Devil On a Roll

The RB series are some sweet amps. They defined that GK sound. I'd love to have one of these, though it would be wasted in my studio:

    Devil On a Roll

Thanks. I recorded a lot of guitars for this song. It started as a jam that I worked up to demonstrate some guitar tones for a thread here on the forum. The guitars were a bitch to edit, and I wound up deleting most of those tracks for the sake of my sanity. What's left is a hodgepodge of...

    Devil On a Roll

Thanks. P Bass with with a pick through my Gallien-Krueger MB500 head's direct out, then through the ART PRO VLAII compressor and into the interface. No ITB processing except a high pass at 50Hz.

    DI Guitar recording

I have not used this function, but I'll try it out right now. What's awesome about Reaper is the redundancy. There are always multiple ways to do something.

New mix in the OP. New vocal take, some lyrics changes, guitars re-balanced.

    (New Dance Track) Heartless ?

Absolutely. It's promising and is going to get a lot better. Make it groove. The rest will fall in line.

If you are going to use sims, might as well take full advantage of the flexibility they offer. You are paying for that flexibility in tone.

    (New Dance Track) Heartless ?

A dance track needs to be built from the bottom up. It sounds like your kick and bass are an afterthought here, with the main emphasis on pianos, lead synths etc. There are a lot of stops and starts that interrupt the flow, not what you want in a pure dance track. A minute or two in the track...

    Devil On a Roll

There will be a new mix soon, maybe today. I've made some improvement to the lyrics and will be retracking the vocal. I agree the song is a bit busy. I'll look at the keyboard part too. Nobody has mentioned that, but it's a significant part of the mix. It may need to be simplified in...

    Compression Question

I looked at the videos you linked. Thanks, they were informative. But in neither case was it clear that they were clipping at all. The argument they seemed to be making was that a red warning indication does not mean that there is actually clipping--yet. The plugin the guy in the first video...

Thanks. There will be another vocal take at some point.

    Bad Dreams II

Your song is dying a brutal death by mastering. It's difficult to listen to. Show it some mercy. Otherwise it could be an interesting song. Guitars sound good.
