Why won't my Les Paul stay in tune?

Nice tuners really are an upgrade on any guitars IMO. That said, I doubt the stock tuners on a Gibson Les Paul were that bad to begin with. Keep you upgraded tuners if you like them, but as Jimistone said tuners probably not the source of your tuning stability problem.

    Waves Vocal Rider

I can see using it in a couple of different ways. You could just do a runthrough on a raw vocal track to sort out the gross variations in level that can happen with comping, then render that and continue to make the critical level edits by hand and by ear as before. It would still save you a...

Why won't my Les Paul stay in tune?

There are a few things you can do on any Guitar to improve tune stability. Make sure you put the strings on right, with the correct amount of winds and everything neat. Lubricate every point of contact at the bridge, saddle, nut. I use Big Bends Nut Sauce. It sticks better than graphite...

    Waves Vocal Rider

I took the plunge on the Waves sale and bought the Vocal Rider and De Esser. I haven't messed with the latter yet. However, I did try the Vocal Rider. It took me a while to get the side chain working in Reaper. It involved getting into the pins and figuring out the magic combination. Tested...

    "Come As You Are"

I see the problem you'er having. That vocal sounds inconsistent in the mix--in places it pops out, in others, it's partly buried. I think the vocal is a bit on the loud side to begin with. It's especially noticeable in the verse, but also lines in both verse and chorus where the vocalist is...

    Original Song Just changed Vibe

I heard it too. 0:05 or close to. I just assumed he was using a non-scale tone that clashed against the underlying chord. You hear it very briefly. I didn't find it annoying, although once pointed out I would track it down and fix it. If you saved the out takes (your DAW probably does this...

Looking forward to hearing the update. I hope you will listen and comment on a couple of songs. Reciprocity keeps the Mp3Clinic going.

    Original Song Just changed Vibe

The song is interesting but it begins to drag. What I notice is a lack of variation in the energy level. The transition to the chorus (0:50, 2:05, etc.) should occasion some kind of boost in the energy of the song--at least a drum fill or something. Apart from the change in chord progression...

    CryonicPAX - Melancholy REMIXED

Listening on my studio monitors. They only thing the jumps out at me is the lows get overpowering. You've got something that sounds like a synth timpani that rattles my speakers. The low end is dubbish, but not really tight enough for that sound. If you assume your listeners has a...

Original Song: Well meant ain't well done, Southern Rock-ish kinda thang...

Nice guitars. Somebody mentioned Bad Company. It's a promising song. The issues are not so much mixing at this stage but performance. As others have mentioned, the drums need developing. This thing should groove hard. The guitars are doing their part. Bass and drums need to step up...

Seedy Side of Heaven with JohnnyAmato and ibleedburgundy

Hey spantini, I get that a lot but I don't hear it personally--apart from a fondness for color chords and inversions. I am a Dan fan, it's no secret.

Seedy Side of Heaven with JohnnyAmato and ibleedburgundy

Thanks Taras, leveling vocals is the main thing I'm working on right now. I did split the chorus and bridge vocals off to separate tracks to boost them more easily. I also did some line-by-line editing to get the quieter passes up to the level where they need to be. Still more work to go. I...

    Eq

That's all I use as well. Also ReaCOMP, Reaper's native compression, is what I use for 90% of my compression. I totally agree with Taras on the subject of EQ. I'm a primitive when it come to mixing, but the idea of shaving off a few dB in this or that frequency to "carve out space" for...

    "Walking Alone" Video released!

Really impressive! The video was cool. Looks like the north shore up around Evanston or Wilmette? Who are the women in the vid? Musically, it's very tight. Those rhythm guitars are at a perfect level. The vocal is sitting exactly right. Great singing and playing.

Seedy Side of Heaven with JohnnyAmato and ibleedburgundy

Hey man, thanks! I'm really happy with it too. It's a different level of complexity than San Antone, mostly because of number of guitars that come in and go out during various parts of the song, and the harmonies. Mixing it is like a solving a Rubik's Cube--it's hard to fix one thing without...

Seedy Side of Heaven with JohnnyAmato and ibleedburgundy

I posted the song demo on the forum a while back. Here's working on the finished product. JohnnyAmato sang lead and harmony vox. Ibleedburgundy played the drums. Awesome job! Early days for this mix. It's more complicated that what I've been mixing lately. The arrangement has a lot of...

    Writing Lyrics

That's pretty much my strategy too. It starts with the music. Then I loop it and hum or scat sing over the top to come up with a melody. Then, with any luck, lyrics emerge. Usually starts with a word or phrase, which triggers associations/ideas/more words/phrases. It's not an efficient...
