Yeah, subtle chorus sounds great. The detuned effect is caused by turning both knobs up too high. There's nothing particularly special about the CE-5. Most chorus pedals can sound good if you don't overdo it.
Hell, they all do that. It's just a question of how they accomplish it. You should probably take rustman's advice, as I couldn't pick a Fender amp out of a lineup if all the other amps in the lineup were Crates. :laughings:
The Presonus AudioBox has two inputs. It's good for recording guitar and mics, but practically useless for line level inputs. I don't think you'll find many interfaces with just one input that you can plug guitar into.
The Voodoo Lab tremolo is very subtle if that's what you're looking for. It doesn't have a square wave LFO, so you can't get the drastic range of effects from it that you can get from the Boss.
No offense taken, Bob. I sometimes toss shit out there without reading the whole thread. I'll gladly take my lumps if something I wrote proves to be irrelevant to the discussion in those cases.
I didn't catch the part where the OP said he needed it for gigging. This being a home recording site, it seemed reasonable to assume he needs it for recording.
I used to have that Boss tremolo/pan that everyone is shelling out big bucks for nowadays. It's really nothing special. You can hear the LFO in it, which ruins the effect. Check out the Line 6 Tap Tremolo.
I had no idea this thing existed until someone mentioned it in the "debating analog or digital" thread. I wish they had come out with this a couple of years ago when I was dicking around with finicky control surfaces and drivers for the PC.
That might be an option if I was still in the market for a console. I quit shopping once I put together a rig I can live with. I have to say that Behringer unit looks pretty impressive. Maybe in a few years I'll get to itching for something different and give digital another go.
The guys who write that software are just as passionate about their work as we are about our gear. They get to see the actual code, which makes it very "real" to them. My beef with digital recording is that it's so damned difficult to get the feel of a console out of it. A reasonably priced...
Apt analogy. I think most people can be obsessed with the minutae of one pursuit while not giving a hoot about another. I, for one, can't be bothered about what goes on in the engine compartment of my car, but I'll tool around with a tape recorder all day long.
