^^^^^ is precisely why I wanted the OP to post a photo of the first fret wear on his D28. I'd still like to see a photo of it.

Good thoughts all around, Steen, but I don't think that "pinch harmonics" are in play here or responsible for the horrible resonances that @Monkey Allen is experiencing with his D28 guitar.
