I use matched mics, matched cables, matched preamps, matched d/a converters, matched compressors, matched EQs, and matched monitors for my un-matched ears.
Almost forgot matched mic stands and shockmounts.

Skip the FOH sound and be a DJ.
DJ's make a lot more per night out than live sound for a band.
What I don't get is that a DJ has a hell of a lot less money invested in equipment than a someone running sound for a band and makes a lot more $$$ each night out. And a lot of them use crappy MP3's...
Just do what I do......
The first hour of my work day I surf the net for deals on gear.
Then the second hour I order gear.....
The third hour I take a coffee break and watch for the UPS man.
The forth hour I round up all my packages of gear from the UPS guy.
LUNCH BREAK
The fifth hour open...

you just bumped a thread from 2001...
I would skip the mod and pick up a ADA8000 or some other lightpipe preamp.
I use a a ADA8000 and an ART DSP II with my VF160's
I picked up 8 of the Karma's from the first batch manufactured.
I think they are more an omni but are listed as carido...:confused::confused:
I have not tried the New High SPL model's.
I didn't have any luck using them on toms.
I think you would have a dull sounding drum kit if you used 7 of...

Now that is something I could use.
I do all my tracking on my Fosetx VF160's and mixing in the PC. (Starting to love reaper)
A bit pricey but it may be a Christmas present.
