    Recording tambourine....

Tbh the last two shakey egg tracks i did yesterday used this technique. Everything else seemed fine, but, as you've both said, for some reason the first couple of bars of every take i did for this shakey egg track sounded sloppy and then picked up. So, like steen suggested, i started playing a...

Does anyone recognise this old mic?

I had to google it and came across this - Astatic 1964 catalogue, and the mic in question does look pretty similar to some in the catalogue, but i can't see that exact one if it's there :( Are there any markings/clues at all anywhere on the mic? And like Kip, i'd love to hear how it sounds...

    Recording tambourine....

Sorry for the resurrection, but i've spent the past two days recording a shed load of percussion, including tambourines, and got around to trying my modded Apex 205 (well, Alctron HRM8-b, but for all intents and purposes it's the same thing, and the only mod was to take out the internal blast...

    Striving for vintage sound! Tips?

If you've not seen it, this is a very good read on how they got the Amy Winehouse sound; SOS - Recording for Daptone Records Tbh i've never done much "vintage" style stuff really. We played around at work trying to do a Led Zep track for an experiment and the big things we found were using big...

Buying four microphones on a budget

I do know what you mean, just looking at the various budget alternatives :) tbf you could sell of the three toms mics for £20 each and buy something else ;) I've been eyeing up the silver bullets for a year or so, heard nothing but good things, love the super tiny size, but shipping to the UK...

Buying four microphones on a budget

True dat! :) I've not tried either if the kick mic's you've mentioned, but you could pick up an AKG D112 for about £90-£100 second hand on evilbay. It's really annoying as the Red5 RVD1 is an awesome budget kick mic but they've gone back to just selling it as part of their set. Tbf the whole...

Buying four microphones on a budget

Tbf, it's a tough one within the £250 budget. Saying that, my suggestion would be to pick up 3 mics to start with and add a forth when you can. For example, you could pick up a reasonable pair of SDC's for overheads (which in a 3 or 4 mic kit setup are going to be very important) and an SM57 to...

How to best use MD 421-II

I always forget about using it on kick. Every time i've tried it i've been impressed, but for some reason it never sticks in my brain and i somehow end up back with a D112 and sE Titan combo  Note to self; use 421 on kick more. And yeah, it's wicked on bass amps as well :) In fact...

Mxl V87 or... Mxl V67i Dual diaphragm..

Unless i'm missing something, and that's entirely possible, the V87 and V67i on "warm" have exactly the frequency response (then again, it's hard to judge completely by their website as the image is tiny) and very, very similar specs in general..... If you want warmish, or at least less bright...

    "Noob" Multi-purpose condser microphone

I'd second the NT1a or NT2a, and add the original sE2200a (just because it's cheaper than the new MKii one)

How to best use MD 421-II

Do it man, it's great to have the two quite different tones and then blending them together (or just using one or the other). The bass roll off can be pretty useful but, as someone said earlier, if you're not sure just leave it alone and edit it later if needs be. I use 421's on floor toms a...

    BlueBlird.. Or.. MXL v67i Dual..

What was it in particular that you not like about the sE2200a, NT1a and Bluebird? If they were too bright then the MXL may be slightly better, or something like the Avantone CK6 or CK7 may work, but something like the SM7b or the EV RE20 would probably be better for you.

    MXL V67G or Cr30?

Hey man, welcome to the boards. As to whether the V67g would be better than the Cr30 on vocals is hard to gauge. I've only heard a few bits with the V67g and i've never heard/used the Cr30 (or the black widow when it was about). Looking purely at the frequency responses on the mxl website the...

My quest to find the perfect mic for cheap ha haaaa !!!

Maybe i missed it, but i didn't see the usual Rode suspects on your list (NT1a, NT2a, NTK) or any of the sE mics (sE X1, sE 2200a, sE Z3300a) all of which are probably worth a try, especially the sE stuff or the older Rode stuff (the original mat grey NT1 and original NT2). If you liked the...

8-Channel Mic Pre w/o AD conversion (but has direct outs)

Yay, finally someone who can answer my questions about SM Pro. How do you find the unit? Sound quality, build quality? Any issues? Would you compare it to anything else in terms of sound and build? Do you own/intend to buy anymore SM Pro gear?

Ribbon mic recommendations for recording flute

:thumbs up: I'm a HUGE fan of Avantone mic's. I've got a CK7 and bought one for work as well, and my next purchase will either be the CV12 or a pair of CK1's. They're just awesome!

Ribbon mic recommendations for recording flute

I knew there was another device people went on about. Yeah the fethead essentially does the same thing as the cloudlifter by boosting the signal. Right, long story short, all condenser mics and some (and i mean you could count them on two hands) dynamic and ribbon mic's require a voltage...

8-Channel Mic Pre w/o AD conversion (but has direct outs)

Tbh, after taking what you've said in to account and looking more closely at them both, i'd personally be more tempted by the Presonus M80. My reasons would be; Better metering with the meters being on the actual channel rather than a little screen further down, insert points per channel...

    Advices about Audio Interface.

Sorry, forgot what was going on... *re-reads* Right, in terms of Audio Interface they'll both work really well so it's probably worth trying them and seeing what works for you, or googleing reviews for both units and see what other users say. My money would probably go for the tascam just...

8-Channel Mic Pre w/o AD conversion (but has direct outs)

I did feel for the poor chap. He tried fighting his corner to start with saying how he really liked the pre's and how they were warm sounding etc etc and then more and more people just pilled on with their experiences which seemed like every other "why beri gear sucks" threads, although with...
