on-desk studio monitor stand with rack spaces

You could use a couple of small 4-6 space rack cases. I think Mid Atlantic might even sell some that fit that description. Not road cases, but studio racks that are made out of particle board. Or you could make your own. That would be the least expensive solution. You'd buy some 6 space rack...

Traveling with A LOT of studio gear. Advice Needed.

Things do get stolen from checked baggage. I know someone that had that happen, and I believe it is not uncommon. He had a watch stolen, but I personally wouldn't put anything valuable and/or necessary in checked baggage. You'll *probably* be fine, but if something is missing or the bag gets...

    Cooling space for rack gear.

Make note of which units run hot, and give those extra space around them. In extreme cases you can get a small personal sized fan and clip that to the back of your rack, blowing across the hottest gear. Some gear runs cool and doesn't need the extra space. But if the manufacturer suggests...

    KX 88 Troubleshooting

The way it is supposed to work is that pressing MS1 puts the KX88 in single mode, MS2 puts it in dual, and MS3 puts it in split. You shouldn't need to hold the buttons down. It's possible the contact is dirty on MS1, or the button is not functioning properly. You might try wiggling it, or...

Adam A7 with a cheap sub?

Right, but here's a couple points to consider: 1. The KRK sub you are looking at is not garbage, so it's not like you would be totally destroying your signal. 2. This is your monitoring chain, so whatever you send to your recorder will not be going through the sub. 3. Theoretically at least...

Macbook, Motu 8pre, mics - then what?

You are pretty close already. The 8pre has a midi input, so you can hook your current midi keyboard up to that. All you really need is the software to do midi sequencing and audio recording, and a software sampler. I use MOTU's Digital Performer and Native Instrument's Kontakt soft sampler, and...

    acoustic upright piano removal/handling advice

No electronic keyboard has the touch of a real piano, even an upright. Much better to practice on a real piano. As far as getting it up the stairs, you just need a bunch of really strong guys who know how to move a piano. I'd say four *really* big strong guys. It could also quite possibly go...

Adam A7 with a cheap sub?

As you've noticed, one of the big keys to using a sub is finding the correct crossover point. As long as it is a powered sub and you can adjust the crossover and volume, I think you are fine using a less expensive sub with the Adams.

    Good All Around Rack Synth

Out of the box, the Kurz piano is better than the 5080 piano. However, the 5080 is much more expandable, and with some SRX sound boards will give you much better strings and keys than the Kurz. Just my opinion, I've used both quite a bit, and both are nice boxes. The Kurz can be expandeed as...

Mac OSX on a PC for recording

I guess the real question is: how much time do you want to spend troubleshooting, versus how much time do you want to spend making music? Using OSX on PC will mean that absolutely no one will be able to give you support, i.e. any software or hardware manufacturers whose equipment you might be...

Difference from Behringer SL3242FX & Behringer MX3242FX mixers??? And whats AD/ATAD?

What do you have in mind for your "two REALLY NICE quality tube mic pre amps"?

    24 bit simulator

What he said. You will really notice 24 bit more when recording acoustic instruments than with VST virtual instruments. Those instruments could also be running at 16 bits. Just because the interface says it is 24 bit doesn't mean your VST's are operating at 24 bit. 16 bit VST's can certainly...

3 DAW's running together? One for ProTools, One for Gigastudio, and one for Reason 4?

I'm pretty sure you'll have to say goodbye to your serial midi interface.

ADA8000 faulty, can I try and return it? (ebay)

The other one good Behringer product that I know of is the Ultra-Curve Pro 2496. I've bought a few Behringer products over the years and the 2496 is the only one I've kept. I really only use it for the metering, but for that it is quite good for the money.

    Does this equipment work?

Presonus makes a USB interface, the Audiobox USB. I personally would go with whatever style interface your computer supports in hardware, rather than going through some sort of conversion. But as LemonTree says, a PCMCIA card would be a lot better option than that little converter you linked...

ADA8000 faulty, can I try and return it? (ebay)

Hmmm, that's odd then. Is the unit you are using an actual power conditioner, or just a surge protector? A lot of companies advertise their products as "power conditioners" when in fact they are really just fancy power strips with surge/spike protection and some electromagnetic frequency...

ADA8000 faulty, can I try and return it? (ebay)

I've pretty much given up buying used gear off eBay, or anywhere actually. It only takes one piece of gear blowing up like this to wipe out the savings you might have accumulated over months or years of buying used. Ultimately, I've found buying new (from stores that give good deals) to be the...

ADA8000 faulty, can I try and return it? (ebay)

I don't think it is fair that you are blaming the previous owner for the unit's failure. When you powered the unit up the first time and tested it, it worked fine. Then you took it to a live venue somewhere and it got fried. How is that the previous owner's fault? Chances are, the power was...

    Virtual Orchestra Question!

Also take a look at the Kirk Hunter "Emerald" library. I have it and the East West Gold and many times prefer Emerald.

SPDIF or AES, whatever is the most convenient at the time. I usually use the AES connection with the 2192.
