Cool. Thanks a lot guys.
Like I said, the bass and vox are scratch tracks at this point. I have a pretty big issue with one aspect of the song, and since nobody touched on it, I'll assume it's not that much of an issue. There is basically no eq on the song yet, this is just a push mix. I...
I'll echo the same sentiments as the previous poster. Take me away has some pretty serious timing issues, and the drums sound very fake.
Down, on the other hand is a pretty groovin little song. I would work on the sound of the main acoustic track. Bring it more forward, and present - as well...
OK, this is a very rough mix of a project I'm working on. Still has scratch bass and vox, but would love to hear some opinions on the song, mix, sounds, etc.

Thanks in advance.
:D
Listened to the facebook link, and it sounds much better than youtube.
Overall, it sounds great. The two main things I heard that sounded "off" were that the vocals are way to far back for pop rock, and the reverb sounded a bit cheesey. I'd also get the cynbals more out front.
Again, nice...
Thanks guys.
Yeah, they guitars are a bit loud, but they sound great to me. The drums and bass were not recorded all that well, so they aren't as prominent. I don't think they are totally buried though.
As far as the "definition" on the bass, I cranked it all I could. It was recorded thru a...
Just curious as to what you all think about some of these songs. From performance, arrangement, recording, mix, or whatever.

Thanks!
I never quantize a drummer that can't play. It would be nearly impossible for me to do, and not worth the time it would take.
As far as not liking the fact that everything has to be quantized in the metal genre (or heck, most music today), I agree with you. It's a sad state of affairs, but...
You're comparing apples to Oranges. Fake drums sound fake because they are fake. Real drums, played by a real drummer, sound real - even when quantizied.
As Farview said, it didn't used to be so critical, but in the metal genre especially, everything is so perfect, that if it's not, you're...
I disagree 100%. For quantizing to work effectively, you have to be able to play pretty tightly to a click. At the speeds drummers are playing, it really does make the playing sound noticeably better. If you are trying to cover up for poor performance, quantizing will be a real PITA, and it...
Plug in?
For me, it depends. Drums are generally 100% quantized. Every single hit. If the guitars and bass need it, I will quantize them as well. Working on a song right now. One guitar is 100% quantized, the other is just a few minor tweaks.
If you listen to any modern metal, put it...
I've quantized albums for people, and every big studio I've ever been in has Pro Tools "monkeys" that do the quantizing. Not hard, but tedious sometimes. Also, quantizing a single track is pretty easy, but it does get a bit more complicated when dealing with 8-20 tracks of drums.
In pretty...
Wow. I'm not sure what you have going on here. The first mix is a bit harsh, and light on the low end. The second mix is mushy sounding, and the bad bass notes are really bad. Can you list the settings on the bass, the amp, and the mix channel? It really sounds like a bad room issue (during...
