    Been having issues!

I do that a lot. I regularly go three or four days without playing guitar, then I'll come back to it better after one of those "I give up!" breaks.

    Straplocks

As stupid as it sounds, it also depends on the kind of strap you're using. I had a bit of trouble trying to get the Dunlop locks to fit on some thick leather straps I bought for myself. Had to take some pliers and force the strap lock pieces together because the strap was too thick. That was...

    again- guitar recording help

The link doesn't work, but my first suggestion would be to make sure you're not using too much gain. I'm having a lot of trouble with this myself, so maybe someone will come in with some suggestions that work for both of us. :p

    B-52 AT212 amps

I liked the head through the Peavey cab that it was hooked to when I played it, but the combo really paled in comparison. In fact, I almost didn't try the head after playing the combo first.

Do any of you get completely pissed off with recording?

Most of it is just frustration. I only get to record maybe a few times in a week, so time is limited. Sometimes when I do have the time and the house is cleared out, I just plain don't feel like recording, and that is frustrating in its own way. Then there are times where I go to record a...

    First mix.....be gentle.

Ok thanks. Good to hear I didn't eff it up with the compression as it sometimes can if used wrong. I agree on the cymbals...wasn't sure if it was just my phones or not. Also the guitar leaning to one side is happening to me too. I thought my hearing was just going bad haha. I will fix those...

Added more highs to the rhythm on this one I think it sounds better: http://www.lightningmp3.com/live/16084_songwithkeith.mp3

    First mix.....be gentle.

I didn't expect so many kind words...especially about the guitar playing haha. Anyway, I tried to take everyone's comments and execute them, as well as doing a few other things to my taste of course. I didn't retrack the guitar, but I did pan the two tracks a bit wider, boosted the highs and...

    First mix.....be gentle.

Looks like I have a solid place to start then. I'll start by getting the Bass and Kick in order and go from there.

    First mix.....be gentle.

Thank you. I can always go through and mess with velocities on the parts to make them sound less robotic. The big hurdle I have is making the kick sound real when it's doing 16th or 32nds. Looks like I'm retracking the guitar. That's cool though I'm just happy to get some unbiased...

    First mix.....be gentle.

Thanks. I've lurked here for a year or more just absorbing information. Yeah I don't know what it is, but I just can't seem to get the guitars to sound "right". They sound far away if that makes any sense. I have the mic pretty close up on the grill, and it doesn't seem to help if I put it...

    First mix.....be gentle.

I've worked a lot with this, and I'm still having problems here and there, so I figured I'd ask for help and see what everyone here. Bass was recorded direct into my mixer, and drums are EZ Drummer. Guitar was the only thing mic'd. No name for this one yet, or lyrics. There are some problems...

Recording - live takes or overdubs

I always do everything in sections whenever possible. It's just the way I'm used to doing it.

So Line Out jacks straight into mixer/interface....

More good advice in here, thanks again. My first idea is put my amp on my stool and just use my straight mic stand, so I'll have to try that. This thread kind of turned in a different direction, but I'm okay with that as long as everyone else is...heh heh.

So Line Out jacks straight into mixer/interface....

Sweet info in here thanks guys/gals. I'll try to improvise on the mic thing and see if that improves the excessive issue. I kind of have a hopeful job on the horizon at a guitar shop, so maybe I won't have to improvise for too long.

So Line Out jacks straight into mixer/interface....

Haha yeah I figured that was part of it too. I used to have a boom stand but I left it at a gig that was 40 miles away a year or two ago and never got it back.

So Line Out jacks straight into mixer/interface....

I don't know, I just never liked the sounds I've heard from a POD. The room itself has a lot of echoing going on. It could just be a matter of putting the amp in a different place. I've kind of wanted to try putting it in the closet that's in here and stuffing it with a bunch of crap to try...
