Newb Q: Did I screw up buying an Audigy2?

Your Audigy will be fine until you need to upgrade. The reason people say to stay away from Creative, is because they are designed to be more of an all around computer, gaming, etc soundcard. Also, Creative does not have a good reputation for fixing driver problems.

    any help appreciated

If you have a computer, have you thought about recording direct to the hard drive? The signal will be cleaner, even with a cheap Soundblaster Live or Audigy soundcard. You could get a basic multitrack program for not too much money. Digidesign is giving away a basic version of ProTools Free...

    Confused Newbie

Mic preamps are needed to get the signal strength high enough for your recorder. You may not need external ones if your recorder has built in preamps.

Studio Projects B1 Vocal EQ Tweaking?

Robert, I think your new mix shows more separation than the first, but still some clashing of frequencies between the different elements.

    Microphone Questions...Help!

If you don't need to record more than two channels at the same time, look into the M-Audio Audio Buddy. If you need to use more and you are on a very limited budget, check out a small mixer with preamps. Either of these will give you phantom power, which you will need for condenser mics. I...

How do studios get that snare sound?

I agree on the moongel.. it's nothing like duct tape. I dampens without muffling, if that makes sense.

    authentic drum sound

I can't post them at this time. I'm getting ready for a show and have to finish some paintings (by the way, thanks for the compliment), so no time for music right now. I'm not sure if there is a copyright violation, either, but if you're looking for files like that, a web search might turn...

    Is my computer good enough?

Rather than using effects "real time" (as the track is playing back) you can apply them "off-line" (have the computer apply the effect, then listen to it and change it, reapply if necessary. Takes longer but saves processing power.

    Drummer Summoning Ritual.

I just read an article in Modern Drummer about musicians sending files back and forth via email. For instance, you lay down your tracks, send a wav file to a drummer, he records a drum track to fit, sends you the drum wav and you mix on your system. Not as good as the interaction of musicians...
