"Lie" may have been the wrong word to use but with a thread like this you have to take into account huge generalisations.
I think what he is saying is that "many" metal recordings are hugely effected in the studio coz it is nigh on impossible to get the atmos and power of a live show without...
Check out the frequency responses of the mics you have and this may give you a clue as to what oyu want to record with it.
eg. SM58 has a low-frequncy roll off to counteract the proximity effect when close micing vocals for live PA for instance.
Hi Kids,
I was messing about with my TEAC A-6100 stereo 1/4 inch reel to reel last night and the transpord died on me.
I know what has happened, so i'll tell you. I was atteching the remote controle unit to the back of the machine but the socket that it attaches to is brocken and has come...
it all depends on what youv'e got to mix it with.
If you have a stereo piano for eg. they are usually panned bass in the left and high in the right. The high notes would then get in the way of the hats. So... you may then want to pan the kit from the drummers perspective.
The "Franz Ferdinand" albums kick drum was recorded using a SM57. Thing is the engineer taped TWO drums together so the kick was like a big tube.
Prety good results too
They Arn't completely useless.
If you put foam inbetween the wall and the egg cartons, the foam will act as the insulator, and the cartons will "scatter" the sound reflecting off them.
You can paint them a lovely colour too. :D
Go for it man.
What's the worst that could happen??
Make sure you check the weather reports. I live in the UK so even the weather forcast can't be trusted but you may have better luck.
Experimentation is always the key to learning more.
You'll probably find, when recording a mono overhead, that the other drum mics will pull the different elements of the OH into a stereo image. As long as the rest of the kit is not mixed into mono that is.
Don't be disheartened buy the costs of building a project. The amount you will learn will be invaluable and i think would be well worth the cost of parts etc. And if the desk breaks down who better to fix it than the guy who built it??
Go for it. And keep us up to date with your progress...
If it is switched to 2t, then you can record oon the tape in stereo but in only one direction. Is switched to 4t you can record in stereo on both sides of the tape, ie. like a normal cassette tape. (not on the back of the tape)
I think...
Hi Kids,
Is there anybody out there in the who can fix my Itam 805 8-track. The main problem seems to be the power supply, and there is also a small problem with the playback transport. I have fiddled and fiddled with this bloody machine for months but due to my lack of electrical engineering...
Hi,
I have managed to get hold of a bunch of brand new 1 inch VIDEO reels. Does anyone know the difference between audio and video tape coz I have a 1" 8 track and was wondering if it was possible to record on the tape without damaging the machine.
If not, does anyone know anybody who would...
