I'm gonna disagree with that statement. There are some software compressors that rock, and are much better than budget hardware ones. I doubt the Waves RComp is worse than a Rane Compressor (which sucks, btw).
Same with most other plugins. There are good ones, bad ones, and everything...
Not entirely true. If it's a balanced input, not Hi-Z, it will be quieter, but as long as the card can push enough gain it will be fine. I've been doing it this way for years (never had a Hi-Z input) and it's always worked. If the card can't provide enough gain then it won't sound to great...
I'll second the software sampler route. You can also pick up a cheap MIDI controller and control everything from that.
I'm not sure your price range, but I believe there are some free samplers, though limited in nature. I'll check into that and see what I can come up with.
pretty much all amplifiers generate some sort of hissing sound with nothing plugged in. It may seem loud, but if you have a guitar plugged in, you won't notice it when you play (as you said). It's just the nature of amps, since when an amp is on it's pushing out air even without a guitar...
Always remember to keep your leg muscles relaxed. I don't know how many times I would get leg cramps trying to do double bass stuff when I started playing. They hurt, and it sucks having to stop a jam midway for that!
It requires some concentration and practice, but once you get it your...
whaddaya mean, marketing term?? I think they're spot on, as the consoles are made in... Britain!
Seriously though, It's marketing lingo. "British EQ" colors the sound slightly and affects frequencies differently than US EQs, but it's just the way they chose to design it, there's no British EQ...
I do 90% of my mixing in the box with anywhere from 20-40 tracks per song and have never noticed anything like he's describing that hasn't been my own fault.
Lets face it, mixing 32 tracks together is damn hard! The more I do it, the more I realize it's all in how good the source material...
I use both an MAudio Oxygen8 v2 and a Keystation 61es.
The Oxygen8 has more knobs and better control over MIDI functions, is 25 keys, and has ok action. Good for synth-style stuff, but the action leaves a bit to be desired for piano. Goes for around $140 new.
The Keystation is pretty...
hey, don't knock on this kid for remembering the good old days! You know, when we used to go down to the corner to slang some rock or get some hookers! Oh wait, that was yesterday :o . My bad.
I just did some thinking, and why is the rack only 1100? It's 1800 more for the ES8, with the added benefit of a weighted keyboard, a sampler with NO ram, and a sequencer. As much as I liked the ES8 when I had it, it still has not gone down in price since it was released(!!!).
All this talk...
Mistral,
In the world of magazines, april fools jokes are almost 100% common. Every single magazine I've read (except Time) has had jokes, sometimes covering the entire issue. Once you notice how common it is, it's easy to detect, but with no knowledge of that it can be a bitch.
Question: Are...
heh no problem
I never even thought of optimizing my projects until a few months ago, when I realized I had a four-track, two minute song clocking in at 3 gigabytes
It's great, just make SURE you don't need any of the deleted tracks. I've had two such instances where I've deleted...
