Just installed Cakewalk Home Studio 2004. Hit play, no sound. Options|MIDI devices shows no inputs and Microsoft MIDI mapper for output. When I highlight MS MIDI mapper and click OK, it still give the No MIDI outputs selected error message. Any ideas about the fix? I'm running an HP...

Not quite as simple as a DS-1, now is it? ;) D11 and 12 are your most likely candidates, as they are in the "hard clip" configuration used in the DS-1, rat, D+, and many others. D8 and 9 are the next most likely, they look like they're in "soft clip" configuration a la the tubescreamer...

...or they could kill you. Read up on safety before going under the chassis, but changing the tubes alone w/o a rebias can be done without going inside the chassis. If it needs a rebias, read up on safety and DIY or take it to a tech.

Two 8 ohm speakers wired in parallel = 4 ohms, so that's probably not your problem. Though if they are mistakenly wired in series at 16 ohms, you should notice a decrease in volume. My first guess would be the speakers themselves. Even wired at 4 ohms, the eminince alpha 12's put out about...

I can't speak for the other pedals Aaron mentioned, but I can tell you the Fulldrive2 is my favorite OD pedal. It sounds good with most amps, unlike other pedals I've tried, and sounds really good when you do the clean boost thing with it. IIRC, Banzai makes a clone of the FD2.

EL84's and 12ax7's are both 9 pin tubes, but the sockets should be labeled on the amp, and EL84 sockets usually have the wire retainers which are too tall to hold an ax7 in place...
