    Calling lt. Bob!!!!!

The whole project (excluding a forced break to eat and put kids to bed) probably took an hour and half, maybe two hours. They definately had that board in there tight, I was a bit scared of breaking it, but it worked. I decided that since I have a friend who is an electrical engineer he could...

    Calling lt. Bob!!!!!

I wanted to publicly thank you for helping diagnose my amp problem, then giving your phone number to an online stranger, answering the phone, and talking me through what/where to solder. I fixed my amp today and it works a charm so far. Thank you so much!

    lo-fi sounds better?

"well I could have been a famous singer, if I had someone elses voice. But failure's always sounded better, let's fuck it up boys...MAKE SOME NOISE!!!" -Conor Oberst Don't worry so much about having a proper voice. Just worry about getting in key. That just comes with .....yup...... PRACTICE!!!

    NI Komplete

I'm considering buying NI Komplete Elements. I just would like to know: If i install this program and the applicable stand-alone players to a prortable harddrive I should be able to use these sounds on my laptop AND my desktop (assuming computers are up to spec) correct? Hope that makes sense...

    16 Channels analog I/O??????

Yeah, I looked into the 828. Is it FW or USB 2.0? How do you like it? @suprstar Thank you for the response. So when is latency an issue in recording? Thanks.

    16 Channels analog I/O??????

I've been leaning toward presonus for a while. Then I found some things from Echo that seemed promising. Are there any other products I should be aware of? I saw that MOTU 24 and would really dig it. However, it would be a bit out of reach and not portable. Noob sub-question. (This is my first...

    16 Channels analog I/O??????

How would you go about getting 16 channels of A/D D/A conversion? 2x Presonus FP10 An Echo Firewire system? I'm hoping to keep it between $400 and $800. Used is fine. I want to have the option to record all 16 at once, but this wont, probably, happen very often. Thanks for any thoughts.

    A difficult decision . . . and a question

Thank you so much! Yeah I've found several for really great prices. I'm thinking my rig is going to end up being 2x Presonus FP10 and a 2516. This will give me 16x16 i/o to the computer with an analog front end and analog summing. Pretty excited as I should have my rig up and running about 6...

    A difficult decision . . . and a question

Sorry for the thread revival....however... What are your thoughts on the Tascam M2516? I don't need complicated routing. I'm really mainly looking at this board for it's 16 ins and it's 8busses. Would this be a nice, warm sounding board?

Confessions of an (almost) reformed purist . .. and philisophical questions

I love this conversation! The whole necessity of me moving to digital is just opening a lot of questions for me. How much do I really need an outboard compressor? You know? It's all a new world to me. I think if you look back at my OP I said that I realize now that it wasn't digital I was...

Confessions of an (almost) reformed purist . .. and philisophical questions

I completely agree. You do need skill. You do need passion. That was my point. I was being stupid. The end rant in the most recent Tape Op talks about that a lot. How you need more than just a computer and interface to make a record. My main question really, was....if you don't use any real...

    Remove Maracas?

I would get another set of maracas, record them perfectly in time, flip the polarity of the track and they should phase cancell each other :-)

    Broadcast Audio DIY alternative?

What would the appropriate size be of the seires inductors? Could you build this as a multichannel box or just, say, a two channel/stereo thing? This might be kind of a cool thing to build. I dunno.

Confessions of an (almost) reformed purist . .. and philisophical questions

When I first started getting interested in recording I bought a cassette portastudio. I got interested in them because (at first) i thought they'd be cheap and I could get started right away. So, as I learned more I started to become much more interested in them because they limited the options...
