The first step in making it big- jump on this opportunity!!!

Please do, because a service like this could be cool if all the legal aspects are on the up and up. For the sake of this discussion I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt, but that paragraph doesn't appear in your terms and conditions of use agreement, only in the seller's contract...

Are we still stuck with mp3?

I don't agree with this mentality. Maybe the teenagers downloading Jessica Simpson tunes don't care about sound quality, but if I had a demographic to speak of I would tend to think they would care about sound quality. Just because the average person doesn't know engineering jargon and can't...

    Redesigned site - Opinions?

I like the look; I wish I could get something that professional looking for Lovelabormusic. What do you design the site in?

The first step in making it big- jump on this opportunity!!!

Thanks for the reply, jazzrich; I appreciate your insight. I'd still like to hear a reaction from the source, so to speak. I understand about the issue of P2P getting ahold of the song and so forth, but the way the contract reads to me, the license given to homegrownvinyl.com is irrevocable...

thanks! It does look nice too, right? ...maybe?

Are we still stuck with mp3?

I suppose I could replace the downloadable audio with a request form for 1/2" reels of the songs... :p:D Seriously, though, that's why I went with ogg. Not as convenient, but sounds better than mp3. You gotta find the right balance. Now, let's stop talking about analog before this discussion...

Are we still stuck with mp3?

I did; I also put a link to irfanview, which will also playback ogg files. Everyone should have irfanview, it's just too darn useful not to. http://www.alandmoore.com/lc Thanks!

Are we still stuck with mp3?

I decided to go with ogg in the end, because at 64kbps, even dialup users can enjoy relatively high quality music. I may lose a few listeners, but I didn't have that many to begin with... unless you count the search engine bots.

The first step in making it big- jump on this opportunity!!!

I'm a little concerned about the terms of use.... could you clarify some things? In light of this point, do you have a privacy statement of any kind? and If i read this correctly (and it's entirely possible I don't), any song I upload to your site is essentially yours to do with what you...

The first step in making it big- jump on this opportunity!!!

I've gotta say, as someone who's tried to sell my work many times: if you can bring in the sales while I just make the music, that's worth at least 50%. Until you've tried to sell your own CD, you have no idea how hard it is to get people to buy. That's provided, of course, that you can do...

Are we still stuck with mp3?

Point taken playit, but my problem with mp3 is the high end, which is about all you actually can hear through 4" speakers! :) I decided to go for the ogg files. My new site is up now at http://www.alandmoore.com/lc . I'm not all that concerned about people checking out my music anyway...

    Methods of notating songs

Nashville numbers is a little different from Roman Numerals. For one thing, it uses regular numbers. I never liked it, personally. Jeez, I didn't mean to upset everyone with that "if it's a good idea I'll remember it". I wasn't being completely serious there, folks. Like I said, the reality...

Are we still stuck with mp3?

Winamp plays ogg, yes; ogg is lossy compression, NL5. You might be thinking of .ape. Monkey's audio is lossless. The problem is, there is still a huge base of users who use built-in media players, like windows media player or whatever crap came with their soundcard. I thought about multiple...

Are we still stuck with mp3?

I've been revamping my website and decided to host my mp3's on my own site rather than to keep mucking around with these mp3 hosts that keep going defunct, ask for my listener's life story, or just plain stop working. So as I'm preparing my audio for the web, I'm wondering: is mp3 still the...

    Methods of notating songs

Well, if I was trying to write pro, I probably would write everything down. For my own songwriting, I like to chew on ideas mentally for a long time. I should clarify too that that's just the way I do it; I'm not saying it's the best way. I guess I'm not being completely accurate about the...

    Methods of notating songs

I typically type out lyrics in windows Wordpad. It's quick and simple and does what I need. When I get lyrics to a relatively complete point I'll print out a copy and start working out chords in pencil. I do a lot of the process in my head, though. I figure if a lyric is good enough to keep...

    Signing Bands

Well, I wouldn't go that far; but from what I've seen, artists who stay in the biz for long typically expand their livelihood into production, songwriting, starting a label, managing, or some other sideline that's much more profitable than simply being an artist. I'd imagine artists mostly...

Best machine for acoustic drum sounds

In my experience, $200 is a lot better spent on samples, provided you have a way to play them. If you use your computer at all in recording, look into a sampler plugin and a good collection of samples. No drum machine you can buy for that kind of money is going to compare to this for realistic...
