You're welcome. Naturally, I kept the trade secrets 8-)
Robin says Thank you. :-)
I would be interested in seeing the pics. That said, in order to do the kind of art that Robin does, it would require a new pickguard (one of the trade secrets). But it would be a great project for her, if we can...
Actually, no. It's alcohol :-)
It's a process that she picked up a few years ago. It took us a while to perfect the process for the pickguards. She drops a few drops of the alcohol paint, and then uses a straw or hair dryer to move the paint around. Then she keeps going with other colors until...
That was a very nice guitar. Indeed, my first Strat. I bought that back in 2004 with my tax refund. I just never bonded with it.
Decade or so later, I built this: It's a 2018 American Pro body with a MIM neck. Duncans. Locing tuners and a blocked vibrato The pickguard was also painted by...
It was at one point. Alas, I sold that one. A very nice American Strat. Originally an HSS configuration. It would have looked good with a maple neck,

THAT is a fact. I like it, but I HATE it. WAYYYYYYYYY more trouble than it's worth. I have Reaper, but moving between DAWs is such a PITA.
I'm moved to a Zoom L12 mixer for recording. Reaper is very good for importing tracks from the Zoom, and does the job, mostly. It can't find many of my...
The neck was delivered today! Very pretty with a great feel. It's very similar to a neck I used on another build, but this one is roasted maple. Same Fender locking tuners.
Still waiting on shipment of the guitar.
If I get the urge, I'll transfer the electronics to the new pickguard tonight.
So, to close this topic out replacing the 3 bass strings with good old American D'Addarios, the guitar has stayed in tune for the past 3 days without a tweak.
I'm happy!
Robin got very good at hand painting pick guards. I've had this one around for a while, and I decided to build another Strat around it.
Then end product will be a Squire Bullet, a Fender Roasted maple neck with locking tuners and a set of Seymour Duncan single coils.
@60's guy knows New England weather, though his is more severe than mine. We had a storm for the books last night. Temp dropped 20F, Biblical rain. Folks half a mile north swear a tornado touched down. The town this morning when I went out was a mess. We were mostly unscathed.
However, I...
I was just on the Goodwill site looking for a black Strat to rebuild. I've purchased several items from them, and have never been disappointed.
I saw some very nice acoustic/classical guitars for silly prices. Might be worth a look see.
Cheap strings.
I replaced the 3 bass strings with D'Addarios.
Contrary to advice, I tied a knot at the bridge end rather than the luthier's knot. My feeling was that too many knots will cause too much instability. This comes from my old sailing days: Tie a simple, sturdy knot.
I did follow...
I'll need to dig into the mechanics before I know what's going on. I think I know where to go from here. Thank you, gentlemen.
I only want to do this once, so I will use all your suggestions.
Thanks
Thanks for the vote of confidence, but no, I really didn't know. I will say that I was close, but not exactly. I missed the second tail loop at the bridge. Same with the loop at the post. I didn't make a loop.
Thanks very much for the tutorial! Much obliged.
Granny? Grandpa if you please...
