    Destructively editing a take

Right click the track (not the waveform) and hit "Render selected tracks to stem tracks (and mute/bypass originals)." That should achieve what you're looking for. The only destructive editing is what you described if you delete the old take. Other than that, Reaper is purely non-destructive...

    $150 for a Mastering Job?

Random bump. I'd be willing to take a shot at it for free. If you like it enough to give me some cash, that's cool too. Just need to get in as much mastering practice as possible with mixes that aren't mine :) PM if interested!

    Mastering for CD vs. vinyl

If this has been discussed before, please be so kind as to point me in the right direction. My band is currently working on finishing up our record and as we get closer and closer to mixing/mastering, I started thinking about pressing. Ideally, I'd like to do a 1000 copy run on CD, and 200-500...

guess what? another undecided audio interface buyer

Hey, if it works for you then great. But obviously you are limited because of this simple statement: On topic though, I own a Fast Track Pro, and it's pretty nice. Definitely not something I'd even consider for doing decent recordings though. In general I wouldn't consider USB for anything you...

    Portishead cover

Welp, my band decided to do a cover of Roads by Portishead. I don't know the legality of simply putting it on Myspace, but copyright laws be damned! It's a good song! Any thoughts on the mix would be greatly appreciated (sorry I don't have anything better than a Myspace link right now, just got...

Welp. Sounds like black metal. Grim and frostbitten and such.

I'll never understand why anyone would ever want to use a limited software that greatly limits their hardware choice.

    Home Recording's Dirty Little Secret

I feel that I'm now close to producing commercial-quality recordings with minimal gear. Years and years and years and years of recording shit bands, mixing and remixing old recordings over and over again, practicing mic placement with my horrible drumming while combating a less than stellar room...

    Karma K10's as drum overheads

Did you try reversing the phase on the kick mic? Personally I've found kickballs to be pretty inferior to D112s, but that's just me. I'd also put it a little more inside the hole.

    Mixerless Setup For A Band?

A patchbay != preamps, and you need preamps to go into the interface. Patchbays are for easier access in racks, and are completely unessential. What your setup will most likely look like is: Microphones/Instruments -> Preamp -> Interface -> Computer Whether the preamps are included in the...

    lexicon alpha & Reaper

It wasn't the pres giving me problems, it was the drivers. If any (and I mean ANY) sound played before I opened up Reaper, Cubase, whatever, it would give me errors and I'd have to cycle power on the unit and hope that it coming back wouldn't make a sound (99% of the time it did) or reboot.

    lexicon alpha & Reaper

I actually went from an Alpha to a Fast Track Pro because the Alpha was an insufferable piece of crap. Fast Track plays nice with Reaper and hasn't given me any problems yet!
