It can hold anything that is rackable in 12U or less. I've got a 12 channel board sitting in it now, but will be replacing that with a 32 channel line level mackie as soon as it arrives. As far as clearing up desk space, I don't know that it would free up that much, bottom legs are 14.5" deep...

They've got a few dozen models, this is the second lowest, the one below is an 8 space, and then up from that they got roller racks, portable racks, etc. They may have just mis-heard you and quoted you a higher up model... Who knows. You got the right price anyways, so nothing to worry about...
