    Best sounding tambourine??

SAMPLED tamborines? Why in the world would anyone buy a cd for tamborine samples when a decent tamborine costs less than 15 bucks, takes ten minutes to learn to play, and is relatively easy to record?

    clean signal layered over distortion

I was going to recommend the sparkle drive also, but you guys beat me to it. I've used a similar setup sometimes with bass. It can be very useful and somewhat different from just turning down the distortion, but there are some things to worry about. First of all, most DI boxes will mess with the...

C4 on overheads and guitar cab - sound clips

Do I hear a Coheed and Cambria influence?

Mic suggestions for mic'ing guitar cab

sheen? What kind of cheap condensor do you own. I would almost always recomend an LCD over a dynamic for sheen and sparkle. Either a studio projects b1 or an at4040 would be a good LCD for guitar cabs, the b1 being cheaper, and the at4040 having more "sheen."

    Octave Pedals

You can buy a cheap used bass for about the same price as a good octave pedal, and a real bass, even a very cheap one, will sound much better than a guitar through an octave pedal. Buy a bass.

    filling gaps on self-defretted bass

I just filled them with plain old wood filler. Works fine. It's more important that you coat the neck with a good lacquer or epoxy than it matters what you fill the fret slots with. I've heard of people going all out and using strips of wood to fill the slots, but this is not at all necessary.

    Octavia MK 219?

$180 is WAY to much to be asking for these mics. The newer version with an improved grill design, the mk319, was going for about 100 bucks new just before their main US distributer, Guitar Center, stopped carrying them. Last time I checked, these mics were going for about $60-70 used on ebay.

    M-Audio Delta 1010 and Omni

I've heard of numerous people doing this kind of thing with m-audio products. It works fine in most computers.

    A BAD day :(

The m-audio delta 44 fits your needs perfectly for a sound card: 4 in, 4 out 24 bit audio and it costs WAY less than 1000 dollars. Using software that is compatible with pro-tools should not even be a concern. You will mix everything down to a stereo audio file before a mastering studio will...

how do i get some attack out of my squier p-bass

1.) New strings 2.) For rock, boost the mids. It will sound like crap solo, but the bass will fit better in the mix and have a lot more punch. Good bass tracks usually sound really nasty and midrangy alone, but then somehow when you get everything else layered on top of them they slip right into...

I have a confession to make...

I have never liked solid state amps for guitar. I like solid state stuff for many other things just fine, mic pres, stereo amps, bass amps, etc. I often even prefer a good solid state amp for these things, but I have never liked the sound of a guitar run through solid state electronics. Tonight...

here are some preamp comparison results

Although I have only had limited experience with most of these pres in other peoples studios and I have never used an hv3b, my initial feelings on them were very similar. But in defense of the more expensive pres, I must say that the mackie really starts showing its faults when you layer a bunch...

How can I fix bleed through caused by compression??

Yeah, use a noise gate if you can get away with it. Just gate out all the bleed before you compress. This takes practice to get sounding right, but it works. Gating wouldn't be my first option though, because you can hear it in the tracks most of the time, but if you are compressing the snot out...

Anybody else see the product placement on...

Are you sure it was an mxl v67g and not an AKG c12? I haven't seen the video, but the v67g is made to look a lot like the AKG c12 which is a very expensive and very popular studio vocal mic. It would be easy to confuse the two: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/C12VR/

Wow..this is so....just look at this

The penis on that thing is so huge that it would knock you on the jaw while you were playing. Maybe that's the idea.

The emperor's guitar has no clothes!

Whoever invented acoustic guitar pickups should be shot. It's one of my biggest pet peeves. I have been in three bands with three different guitarists who always insisted on using their acoustic puckups for live work as well as recording rather than a microphone. I just don't understand how they...

    Marshall MXL2003

If it's anything like the mxl 2002 then it probably sucks. I've never heard anyone recomend it, and mxl mics get quite a bit of attention on these forums, so if it was any good somebody would already be raving about it...

    Line 6 POD for Recording!

Is there really an AIR control on the pod pro? When I first read that comment I thought is was supposed to be a joke reference to the bitchslap sessions. The vocals need more air! Well just turn that "air" knob over there. Wow! that makes a big difference! Freaking hilarious.

Does anyone know if there’s a better forum for discussing FX units, and the like?

musictoys.com forums are great for guitar stomp boxes, but that's about it. What effects are you intersted in? reverb and compression are covered pretty well right here.

    Opinion on Bass Guitar

Ibanez and Yamaha are the only brands that I'd look at in that price range. Most manufacturers just can't seem to get the necks right on their cheap basses and bass with bad action is a horrible instrument to play. For some reason Ibanez and yamaha get it right most of the time and they sound...
