We replaced our drummer's felt beater head with a wooden one when we weren't getting enough attack. This helped. I found the best sound came from putting the 52 inside the hole, not inside the drum. Like sickmelvin said, with the blue ring even with the head. Also make sure the hole is offset...
We use a beta 52 for kick also. I cut a hole in the front head & position the mic in the hole pointing at the spot where the beater strikes the head. The beta 52 is designed to emphasize the attack & bottom end of a kick drum. It's great for rock music, but not for everything. It definitely...
sound card is m-audio audiophile 2496. It does have the GSIF drivers. Giga seems to only want .gig files & I couldn't figure out how to convert wave files to .gig. I can't use Soundfonts unless I have a Creative card right?
I want to set it up so I can play wav files on my computer from a keyboard, each key triggering a different wav file. I have a trial edition of giga sampler, but can't figure out how to do it with that (hell, I can't seem to do anything with it!). I downloaded a trial version of mellosoft, but...
When did people start playing drums as a kit the way we know it today (ie. kick, snare, toms, hihat, cymbals)? Was there one drummer who came up with this format, or did it develop over time?
I also just recently was turned onto Frank Black's 'Teenager of the Year' cd. Although there are a few different guitarists on it, the guitar tones on the whole disc kick ass (as do the songs).
ok, I'll shut up now.
Some not mentioned:
David Hidalgo
Leo Nocentelli
C.C. Adcock
Carlos Santana (I know, we're all sick of him, but you know it's him from the first note)
And I second:
Billy Gibbons
Brian May
Angus Young
Mark Knopfler
Jeff Beck
Adrian Belew
That dude from Radiohead
Well, I bought the Seck.
Han-
The seller tells me the following:
"The actual SECK 1882 board is all +4dBu (at unity gain) except for a few
things. I think most of those can be modified to +4dBu, but it takes
swapping resistors. The meter bridge converts the +4 group outputs to -10
for an...
I agree. I have both the 8000's and the 603's. 603's are better on both guitar & oh's, but I liked the 8000 on tambourine and sheep-hoof-shaker-thing. They also did good as a room mic recording a rock band. The combination of 8000 (above shoulder) and sp b3 (in front of guitar) worked well...
So is what you're saying is that some synth patches produce one sound when the key is struck halfway & another sound when the key is pressed all the way down & a keyboard with aftertouch will allow you to get both sounds?
I see some cheap midi controllers for sale at MF (Midiman Keystation, Studiologic CMK161). Both claim to be powered via USB. Question is, can they be powered without the USB? I don't want to drag a computer to gigs. Any other opinions on these 2 midi controllers?
I like the beta 52 for the rock music I have been recording. You can listen to some tracks I recorded with it here:

I have no experience with the d112 or the beyer, but the re-20 has a flatter response where the 52 emphasizes the...
We're want to run some headphone & mic cable through the wall to a wall plate in the next room. What type of cable is best for the headphone signal (post headphone amp)?
