    Best Bass Guitar Strings?

Personally, I've always considered it more a matter of finding out (through trial and error) which set of strings sounds best to you on each particular bass. It just depends on what kind of sound you're looking for out of a certain bass. I have four basses, and have a different set of strings...

    Gibson Faded SG?

Well, I was looking pretty seriously at those a while back. As has already been mentioned, they seem to have problems with the frets being dressed properly. In fact, the construction quality overall is just plain poor for the price that Gibson charges for them. This is just another example of...

Two mics into a single channel?

Thank you! That is exactly the information that I was needing. Thank you very much for your help! :) :) :) :) :)

    close-mic'ing bass amp

Also keep in mind that the SM57 is not known for its strength in the bass frequencies. If a 57 is the only mic that you have to experiment with on your bass amp, you might not be satisfied with the results. You'd have much better results with a mic that does well with these lower frequencies...

Two mics into a single channel?

O.K. First of all, I do realize that this is a home recording web site, and that my question mostly pertains to live applications. But, this is where I usually hang out. And, besides, this question might have some relevance to recording applications, as well (although none come immediately to...

What was your very first guitar?

First guitar My first electric guitar was a Teisco Del Rey. Which is Spanish, I think, for "Piece of Shit." But I could be wrong. :D :D :D

    Perfect Pitch

Well, I think I've told this story on this board before, but it's been awhile. So, here goes. (Sorry in advance for the long post, but it's a long story.) Back in about 1980, when I was a Jazz Music major, we had a music theory professor who was all about the concept of training people to...

    Bassists that rock?

Hey Flint, First of all, I should say I am another of those people here who have literally been playing bass longer than you have been alive. I should also mention that I personally find your attitude rather refreshing. Heck, I can remember when I was 20, and thought I knew everything there...

    Bassists that rock?

Now HERE's a man who knows what he's talking about! Anybody who listens to the best work of Jaco or Victor Wooten and only hears wanking needs to work on their listening skills! These are true musical artists of the highest order. And bonus points must be given for mentioning the incomparable...

    SVT3 Pro gain setting question

At one time, I would have agreed with this statement. Except that, recently, I have found myself using my own primary bass amp (a Mesa Boogie) in exactly this manner -- master set on full blast, and controlling the volume with the gain knob. I've found that this works extremely well. When I'm...

Gibson v. the whole damn guitar comunity (but starting with PRS)

The biggest threat to Gibson isn't Paul Reed Smith, it's Gibson's own management team.

    cheap guitars are better?

Cheap guitars ROCK! Besides, that leaves more money for booze and whores. ;)

Vox valvetronics AD 120 VT.............. Ampmodelling???

Amp modeling Well, they call it amplifier modeling, simply because the underlying technology being used is called "computer modeling" and the objects being modeled are musical instrument amplifiers. Computer modeling has been around a very long time. This is simply when you take the physics...

Most versatile small home recording amp

Oh, I'm a big fan of the Blues Jr. Don't get me wrong. But if it's versatile that you're looking for, the Blues Jr. is NOT the amp you want. It will NOT do a traditional "Fender clean" sound. It basically does one sound - a moderately crunchy mid-gain tone - with a few slight variations on...

    What will Gibson buy

Well, they could always offer cash PLUS stock for whatever they're looking at. So the purchase doesn't necessarily have to be limitted to something that costs 53 million.

    What will Gibson buy

He's right. Fifty three million is NOT a lot of money in the mergers and aquisitions world. Probably more in line with the costs to retool for a new line of in-house designed guitars than to give you enough money to buy a whole different company. I'll bet that Light has nailed it as far as...

    What will Gibson buy

Oh dear God. So Gibson is going to create their equivalent of First Act guitars? Now THAT's depressing news. :(

    What will Gibson buy

O.K. Here's another couple of ideas. If I were Gibson, and I wanted to buy another company that made guitars, I'd go downmarket. I'll bet Fender is cleaning Gibson's clock at all price points, but especially in the lower end. A new MIM standard strat costs, what, $199? Gibson can't sell...

    What will Gibson buy

Hmm. Marshall, perhaps? Might as well sell people the proper amp to plug that brand new Les Paul into.
