    learning bass fast?

Well, "fast" is relative. I mean, I've been studying the bass for about 30 years, and I'm still learning. But, compared to the age of human civilization, it's really not that long. ;) Bassman Brad

What's the best mic under $3.50?

Personally, I still like the Cambell's soup can idea. Plus, you could mod it very easily. I mean, what would happen if you used a 16 or 12 gauge wire, instead of a 20? But of course, what would REALLY rock is if you could find an old soup can from the 50's or 60's. The heavier gauge metal...

What's the best mic under $3.50?

Yeah, but what I want to know is, how does it compare to a Neumman U87? Has anybody thought about doing a shoot-out between the two? Brad

    Must-own mics

Sorry, I got carried away with myself. For the three mics, I think I'd pick a Shure KSM-44, and Electro-Voice RE-20, and a Peluso CEM-6. I think that would be pretty close to $1200, and should cover an awful lot of territory. Brad

    Must-own mics

On the other hand If you left at least one monkey alive, then you wouldn't have to bring in an outside drummer. ;) Brad

And does the desert island have proper room treatment? Decent monitoring? ;) Brad

Martins with the Fishman "Aura" system

Bump I'm going to bump this thread, to see if there are any other comments about this guitar and/or preamp system. Thanks again, to all who have read and/or contributed to the thread. Brad

Article: Head To Head Modeler Shoot Out (FYI)

You missed my point Well, first of all, I apologize. I was trying to offer a little suggestion about how the article could be improved. You DID ask for some constructive criticism, after all. But I was purposefully subtle about it, since I wanted to be encouraging of your efforts, overall...

The truth about pres ??? Your comments please...

By the way, while I certainly DO hear a difference between different preamps, and I think anybody can with a little ear training, I also concur with War that there is MUCH too much emphasis placed on collecting different mic pres, at the expense of building a nice mic locker. At the amateur...

The truth about pres ??? Your comments please...

Well, first of all, I don't buy the argument that there is no discernable difference between mic pres, until you get into the high dollar range. Even the very cheapest pres have a signature sound. Think of the infamous Mackie VLZs. They sound thin and brittle on the high end. Consistently...

Article: Head To Head Modeler Shoot Out (FYI)

A nicely written, very thorough review. Good work! I never did figure out what "FRFR" means, though. I guess that refers to a system that's "Full Range and Freakin' Righteous," perhaps? Brad

My guitar accidentally ended up in my ass.

I think it's finally time to do something about that Nyquil problem, dude! Bassman

    Firepod pre's

Does anybody know if the Firepod has the same preamps as the ones that are in the MP20? I've been assuming they're the same, but I don't know for sure. Brad

    ~$300 for a bass amp

Well, I think I've played the Workingman's 15 once in a store, but don't remember much about it, so I can't offer you much advice on choosing between the two models. Now, I have played the Peavey KB300, however, which is supposed to be a keyboard amp, but absolutely rocks on bass guitar. One...

    ~$300 for a bass amp

Both of my combo amps are SWR. One is a vintage Bassic Black. The other is the smallest amp of the Workingman's series, the Workingman's 10 which, as I mentioned before, has done a fine job on several smaller, quieter gigs. The Workingman's 15 has a fifteen (of course) and more power, so it...

Martins with the Fishman "Aura" system

Thanks for the feedback, Light. Anybody else ever tried one of these guitars? Would you share your impressions, please? Brad

    ~$300 for a bass amp

Well, the problem with these kinds of questions is that it mostly depends upon what kind of band you're playing with, as to if the amp will be "loud enough" to get the job done. Personally, I've played a fairly large concert hall several times with my smallest combo amp - an SWR Workingman's...

Martins with the Fishman "Aura" system

Has anybody ever tried one of those Martins that have the Fishman "Aura" system installed? The technology sounds intriguing, but I haven't got a chance to hear one, yet. One of the guitar players in my band tried one out today at the Guitar Center in Indy (the DC-16 RGTE with the Aura preamp)...

    Amp Prices... I'm outraged!

Easto, don't take it personal, man. You've obviously elicited some very powerful emotional reactions from people here. But the truth is, you are right! The prices of those "boutique amps" (not to mention some of the non-boutique ones) are, indeed, horrendously overpriced. The simple truth of...

    Mxl V6

The main thing that I'm wondering about this mic would be: Is is anywhere nearly as "dark" in tonal color as the V69? Brad
