Porting cakewalk projects over to an open source platfom

Export all your tracks to wav files. Save them onto an external hard drive or large capacity flash drive. Drag the files into Rosegarden. RG's capabilities are supposed to be on par with some moderate Windows- and Mac-based DAW's. Don't ask me what they're comparable to; I have no idea. Good Luck.

    Decent Budget 8xXLR interface

I read a review of the r16 about 2 weeks ago when someone posted the link here. I love my Korg D888, and the BR864, which I picked up a year ago for $150, but for what my wife and I paid for the Korg and her BR900cd we could have three of the r16's, and be able to do more with them. I basically...

    What Is Causing This Noise?

That's funny, because I have the 1616 pci into a pcmcia adapter. I have my phone on in my studio all the time and I never get that interference. Check your xlr cable. Try the amp again with the Heil in front of it when you know shes on the phone. I don't think it's going to be exclusive to the...

Why does D.I sound so bad?

There's A Thread About That Please check W.S.'s recent thread on ac gtr recording. Very smart, straight to the point, and enlightening. Here it is:https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=290919.

    How to transplant drum trax

midi to akai dps24... Ok, take 1 midi cable from the "out" of the TD20 drum module to the "in" on the DPS24. Record your performance as midi into the DPS24 (read up in your manual for the basic procedure). Once you have the performance on the Akai, plug the USB into your computer, and drag and...

Is there such a thing? where? whynot?

nothing as basic as what you've described But anything with xlr's is going to need preamps, gain per channel and master volume. And for a separate track per channel so you can move them onto the pc,a hard disk and usb or firewire. There are a handful of 8 track digital recorders, but every one...

    Audio Interfaces

Check this out http://emu.com/products/products.asp?/product=15185 E-mu 0404... I'm really fond of my E-mu 1616, and this is a nice little USB audio/midi interface. One thing ~ like about the E-mu stuff is that you are not tied to one particular DAW, as M-audio seems to like to do as both...

    Newb Question

Sorry, I didn't mean to confuse things. I thought the idea was to keep you from from having to go behind the comp every time you needed to change your input source. I'm out. My fault.

    Newb Question

Sorry, but my step-daughter was calling on skype, so I had to give up my wife's computer. Anyway if you can afford a small piece of equipment that has spdif, that would probably do the trick. Otherwise, you're pretty much stuck with what you have now and doin what the other guys have said.

    Newb Question

Try this: Run your V amp L/R to the IN L and R on the 1212m. In the PatchMix DSP: send each input to their respective positions (L/R). If you have spdif or adat out on any other outboard piece of equipment, you can use that as your second input. Remember adat (in this case) gives you...

    Dp02 usb hd

Simply put---no. Digital Recorders which use flash memory can only use their specified media. I can't be sure about the DP02, but in the case of the two Boss BR decks that my wife and I own but the only media they will accept are 1GB CF cards, and not CF II Ultra or multiple gig cards. Find a...

    PCI card question

I have to agree with KingofPain. I have been using an E-Mu 1616 for three years and love it. They seem to me to be more flexible than many of the other manufacturers interfaces. They work with virtually any Win- based DAW out there and although there is some latency, like King said you have the...

Write a new blurb for this board

I like True's idea too, but what's Ears that Hear for? Unless you're considering a step by step critiquing to guide the actual tracking process. Or am I off the mark?

    Bleeding instruments into other tracks?

beedthrough You're recording "live", right? With the monitors playing back your previously recorded tracks? If this is the case, then you have sympathetic vibrations, where the pickup of your bass is picking up the sound of the other tracks. Two choices: If the other tracks are just "scratch"...

Need general midi plugin for playing MIDI files

Yep, BentRabbit is right, it is included. As is Studio Instruments: Studio Drummer, which is a pretty decent drum module. I haven't found any really good free drum plugins, although DSK Music has "minidrumZ" http://www.dskmusic.com/blog/?p=105, and "AkoustikdrumZ"...
