    Acoustic Guitar Recording 101

Another Thank You! As far as the earlier posts about noise gating fans... DON'T. Your ear kinda turns fans and other "background noises" into "Background noises" if they're steady state. But if you gate it, that "broadband background noise" becomes much more noticeably pitched noise, and it...

Does stereo matter if your room is nothing special?

Well, I guess the next mic then is liable to be a Behringer ECM8000 instead of something sexier.

Does stereo matter if your room is nothing special?

Cause of death was not natural causes, so I'm not sure if it was "going out". My guitar amp is a Carvin X-60C with G12M-70, which is not one of Celestion's favored children. I like the tones I get in the room with it, and the AT2020 sounded just fine, but the presence peak on the 57 was just...

Does stereo matter if your room is nothing special?

Having answered the primary question, I guess what falls out of it is..where the next chunk of change to become available goes. Since that's a bit broad, I'll confine it to mics. I've got a dead 57 that just needs a capsule replacement. Before I broke it, I wasn't real happy with it's intended...

Does stereo matter if your room is nothing special?

Since I'm recording with a Zoom R24, it occurs to me that 1) I can easily change my location. 2) I have a deck on the back of the house and live in a rural not-quite-subdivision with extremely light traffic. I suspect if I try it there's way more noise outside than I ever thought possible, but...

Does stereo matter if your room is nothing special?

Well, its a problematic room to treat so I was just close micing and adding better sounding rooms electronically. A bonus room with a lot of treatment is still a bonus room.

Does stereo matter if your room is nothing special?

I'm a newbie to miccing acoustic guitars. I skimmed the stickie but.. I'm wondering if stereo is worth bothering with if I'm in an iffy room. (Bonus room over garage) I have an AT2020 (and I guess a pair on the zoom r24 if you count them). I was scheming to grab an AT2050 and try mid-side...

How do you make your acoustic guitar "shine"?

What about some sort of exciter type effect? I did that on a 40 year old cheap cassette recently and it worked amazingly well for adding missing sparkle. The other thing.. since you're recording. Sometimes I play acoustic guitar with a quarter for a pick. It absolutely destroys the strings. Or...

    Zoom R24 - normalize track

I'm using the compressor on the way in, but that's post ADC, hence setting the gain way down to prevent clipping on slaps. I do have an outboard compressor, but it's a rackmount andI recorded tracks while using the Zoom as a 'portable' recorder. Hence trying to boost the already recorded track.

    Zoom R24 - normalize track

I just got an R24, been playing with it. With my bass in particular, setting the input gain low enough that it doesn't clip on slaps means I don't have enough gain to sit well in the mix once recorded. I'm really just trying to keep it from maxing out the converter. Once I have recorded the...
