    Getting a Teac 3340S!!

Just fewer options. I won't go crazy overdubbing, I won't set up a bunch of mics for the drum kit, etc. If I just have an idea that I want to lay down, it'll be one mic in front of the kit, a bass track, a guitar track and a vocal. No time spent messing around with plugins. :) I just find that...

    Getting a Teac 3340S!!

Beck mentioned here that 468 would work fine with a Tascam 22-2, which is what I've been working with recently. I wasn't too happy with 407, so I decided to switch and found a bunch on eBay cheap. I recall Beck saying that even though 468 is 1.5 mil, it isn't as stiff so it works fine. I found...

    Panning on 60's Recordings

BRDTS is dead on. Thanks for the great explanation for the uninitiated! That said, I'd like to chime in and give you this bit of opinion (which you may have heard elsewhere): the only way to enjoy the Beatles (Please Please Me through The White Album) is in mono. Those were the mixes that the...

    Getting a Teac 3340S!!

Just moments ago I was talking to a co-worker. We have a new employee here who is going to share my office, and we needed to move a bookcase from one side of the room to the other (by the way, I don't have an audio-related day job). I moved a box of EMTEC 468 that I just picked up from eBay. He...

GREAT way to get fat drums, fast, with 3 mics...

Ok, I just used this over the weekend. Worked great. Some background... First of all, I recently bought a Studiomaster 16-4-2 board. It replaced a Mackie 1604 VLZ with XDR preamps. I cannot believe the difference. In the past, all my recordings had a dull quality to it. Stuff I mixed was...

My boss just gave me an all tube reel

What's the brand name and model? Tubes can make a difference in sound (which you may or may not like), but it really depends on the make and model (not to mention the condition). It could be shit, it could be great.

Recording Acoustic & Vocal tonight... need some ideas.

Thanks for the (on topic) replies. ;) My session has been moved to Saturday afternoon, so I still have time to think this through... I'll probably use the AT4050 on the vocals now, instead of the Audix. I think, for what I have in mind, I'd like less guitar bleed on the vocal mic. I'll try the...

Can you identify this BASF tape?

I found this reel in a box. There was a really faint signal on it, probably recorded from an LP to a consumer deck. I loaded it onto my Tascam 22-2 and recorded some music, and it came out loud and clear. It has a nice sound to it, not amazingly hi-fi but a hair muted. Probably good for some...

Recording Acoustic & Vocal tonight... need some ideas.

I'm recording some demos for a friend tonight. He's going to sing and play acoustic guitar at the same time. For him, these will be demos to give to his bandmates so they can learn the songs. For me, I want to use this opportunity to try some new things. While this will just be a demo CD of...

Which company's drums do you play? VOTE

I use a 1965 Slingerland kit, in red sparkle finish: 9x13, 16x16, 14x22 and 8-lug chrome-over-brass "Krupa" snare drum. However, I usually switch out the bass drum for a 1966 Slingerland 14x26 marching drum (modified with spurs and tom mount) and a Pearl Steve Ferrone snare drum (6 1/2 x 14)...

Die Cast Hoops vs Triple Flange 2.3 & 1.6 mm rims

It's all a matter of personal taste. I like Triple Flanged hoops on all my drums. I never liked die cast too much, unless it's a lighter vintage Gretsch hoop.

GREAT way to get fat drums, fast, with 3 mics...

Has anybody tried moving the two main mics closer, for quieter drum tracks? Any problems or tips?
