    Ear Protection

Great idea. I believe Blondie use them as Debbie Harry has bad tinnitus.

    Ear Protection

I'd have to take issue with that. A band can only be as quiet as it's loudest element. As I said before, you can't turn the drummer down and neither can you play punk rock with brushes

    Effects for recording

I think the POD XT / x3 is probably the daddy if you want amp modelling as well and you have the advatnge of being able to buy additional model packs. Personally, I still think they sound a little bit digital but I guess that is the trade off for having them all in one convienent box. I've still...

    Ear Protection

Nice one I will give them ago after which maybe I'll start writing the definitive guide to earplugs :)

    Ear Protection

If only I could turn the drummer down ;)

    Ear Protection

I've tried half a dozen types from the cheapo foam disposable plugs to those expensive (ish) rubber things drummers use to hold their brains in :D The problem I have is my ears are quite small and so I find the ones that give the best attenuation whilst preserving the sound rather uncomfortable...

What sort if music do you play and most importantly what sound (s) are you looking for?

    Home Recording's Dirty Little Secret

When I got my first cassette 4 track it was simply to get help me get my ideas across to other people. However, over the years my expectations of what I can achieve have increased exponentially with increasing knowledge and experience. I can see the progress I have made from those early days and...

    what brand amp??

I used to be a Marshall man through and through until I tried Tech 21. Their Trademark 60 is fab and I probably wouldn't swap it for anything else

    Recording drums with one mic

Not used this method for many a year but I used to hang a vocal mic a few feet above the snare. Just don't expect miracles with a single vocal mic!

What order do you record instruments when multitracking?

As a rule of thumb I like to have the main parts well rehearsed before even attempting a take however as I've become a more accomplished guitar player I've also gotten lazier!

What order do you record instruments when multitracking?

Once, after several fruitless hours of recording, the drummer turned to me and said quite seriously "so I'm supposed to play along WITH the click then". I kid you not! I agree with RAMI that having the click loud is very important. In fact I've found that this applies to most...

Who went to school for recording? Who hometaught themselves?

I had keyboard lessons for 4 years before teaching myself guitar and I studied Electronic Engineering at Uni. I have a friend who took a course at the School Of Sound Recording (Manchester) and another who has a degree in Technical Theatre Arts (or something like that). I would consider both of...

Anybody with pictures of studio bedrooms?

Nice sounds there fellow 2488 user! Here's some pics of my "spare" bedroom studio I posted a few months back. Actually, I have sold virtually all the equipment in the rack since then (except the mpx110) and added some new toys. There's no acoustic treatment as such but despite this the sound...

Anyone tried this software for your 2488?

I downloaded it but have never tried it as I don't have a MIDI port on my laptop. To be honest I've no use for mix automation. A basic MIDI sequencer would be more useful.

    updating the 2488

One of the reasons I prefer the digital portastudio format is because it is so intuitive that I don't have to think to much about what I'm doing and can concentrate on being creative.

    updating the 2488

Always nice to welcome a new member to the 2488 club. I was wandering how many of us there are and what level of sonic perfection people achieve / expect to achieve with this machine? The reason I ask is because almost everyone I know uses a PC and I am regularly chastised for not joining the...

    788 vs DP01

SCSI was also used in PCs, especially servers. They tended to have faster sustained data rates than older IDE (PATA) drives which is good for multi-track recording. I think SATA drives have long since rendered them obsolete but last time I checked you could still get them.
