    2488 Rewind Button Getting Cantankerous....

One of my cursor key's was a bit tempremental for a while but seems to be OK again now. Possibly some dirt on the switch contacts? If it's possible to get access inside then a quick squirt of contact cleaner will probably sort it (used to this a lot with my SR16s pads). I've also had my 2488...

Sound Stopper Acoustic Panel - anyone tried these?

Hey all, Has anyone any experience of using this material (or simaler) to reduce sound coming through brick walls? http://www.studiospares.com/Acoustic-Screens/Sound-Stopper-Acoustic-Panel-2M-X-12M-X-14mm/invt/465000 Ben

    Kick Drum mic Poll

I've been using one these StudioSpares unbranded ones: http://www.studiospares.com/Mics-Instrument/Studiospares-Sd101-DrumPercussion-Mic/invt/448660 Considering the silly low price it does a good job.

    Direct Guitar Recording

How about recording them to seperate tracks? If you check out the the Tech21 website they have examples of guitars recorded simultaneously with the Sansamp DI and a 57 on the cab, the individual tracke being panned in oppostion. I've also recorded basses using both. Sometimes you have to flip...

    Direct Guitar Recording

I used to mic. Then I discovered Sansamps and the H&K Red Box. I may never mic again.

    home recording and guitar

One of the 1/4in line inputs is switchable to Hi-Z so you should be able to plug straight in. The tone will depend on what plug-ins you have.

Making the switch to a laptop based system

Thanks for you reply Tim. What I really want to hear about though is people's experiences with the us1641 and a laptop / Intel USB 2.0 chipset though.

Making the switch to a laptop based system

Hello all, It seems I may have outgrown my trusty Tascam 2488 and assorted boxes. We pretty much maxed out all 24 tracks when recording the new album and so it's time to trade up. I currently have a Dell Inspiron 6400 notebook (Core Duo 1.73GHz, 1GB Ram, 120GB 5400rpm HD etc) which I've mainly...

    SR-18 Software Editor ????

I'm seriously considering an SR-18. I've been an SR-16 user for many many years and one of the things that I love about it is how intuitive it is to program compared to other machines I've tried. In the past I have triggered it from Cakewalk and FL Studio but to be honest it was more of a chore...

Backing up Tascam 2488 using USB Anywhere device

Perusing through a trade catalogue I've just come across this device from Belkin: http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=249832 It allows you to transfer data between USB storage devices without using a PC. Now I'm wandering if it could be used to backup a Tascam 2488's...

    Rythm Restore to Alesis SR-16

Plug the line out of your sound card into the TAPE socket (mini-jack) at the rear of the unit, press the BACKUP key and use the PAGE keys to navigate the menu to "Load In Tape" (page 4). Press the PLAY key on the SR-16. You should then see the message "Start Tape". Hit play on you PC and when...

    Doubling guitar tracks

Interesting point. I want to try using a mic in front of the cab and the direct output of my Trademark hard panned at some point (you can hear this for yourself on the Tech 21 website) but it's not really practical at home due to volume limitations. The choice of mic would probably be the key to...

    Doubling guitar tracks

I'd prefer not to have to double track especially on more complex parts as it's easy to lose some of the subtleties of the original perfomance. But until I figure out how to archeive that big fat guitar sound another way then it has to be done. I tend to use a different pickup or amp setting...

    Line 6 toneport ux1

I have a UX1. The bundled gearbox software gives you access to some of the POD Xt tones which some people rate though I personally still prefer to record a "real" amp any day. You can of course plug your existing rig into the UX1 but unless current sound card is really bad then don't expect...

    ALESIS SR-16 trouble

Did you buy it new? If so I'd be sending it back to whence it came. When you say charger I assume you mean Power Adaptor as SR16 cannot run on batteries (I believe the new SR18 can however - yes, I am tempted). If not you should be able to pick up a replacement PSU online - I'd suggest googling...

    Effects on Tascam 2488

I've had no problems with them. There isn't really any hiss unless you have the trim all the way up. I'm sure if you put them up against an expensive standalone there would prob be a difference but I reckon they are good enough for my needs anyway

    Effects on Tascam 2488

It's taken me years to understand compression. Even now I'm still learning how it effects the sound rather than the mathematical principles. For ages I virtually avoided it because I was convinced it was evil! Couldn't live without it now though.

    Effects on Tascam 2488

Ahh I think we are talking about different fields. 2:1 would be the compression ratio (i.e. a level change of 2dB is reduced to 1dB) and the threshold is the point where the compression starts to act (think the values go from -40dB to -16dB)
