Hi all
I've owned a Porta 03 , a 414, a 788 and currently a 2488.
Over the years I've used a variety of other solutions ranging from open reel multi tracks to PC software (Cubase, Cakewalk, FLStudio) etc and I can honestly say I've had the most success with the Tascams. Yes, they have flaws...
Avoild FLStudio (as it's now known) unless you're into loops and samples. The MIDI editing facilties are limited compared to pretty much any other sequencer from the last 10 years! I recently brought the latest version only to ditch it and go back to Pro Audio 7 (yes, that old!).
Whilst I agree that using pirated software is stealing, clearly there is a need to try software out before you buy. A lot of demo versions are completely unusable - for example the Sonar 4 demo inserts a 1 second silence every 5 seconds which renders any test recordings un-listenable. I wouldnt...
It really depends on your soundcard. If yours has a coax Digital Input you can hook the 788's digital output directly up to this.
Also, are you really using the soundcards Mic input? Most souncards have a Line Input which should give you better quality. Also, use the 788s Line Out and not the...
Well I said up to 12 hrs but I should qualify this by pointing out that it includes about 10 tea & biscuit breaks (rock n roll). :D
Also I like to revist a mix and tweak it once I've listened for a week or so.
The battery is easy to access but it's soldered into place. The biggest problem I had was finding an exact replacement here in the UK. In the end I chose a simaler, if slightly smaller one, of the same voltage. It's now held in place by a small amount of blue tack and elec's tape!
Yes, create a new Cubase project and then use the import audio function in Cubase (sorry can't remember where exactly). I think there are some other simaler threads too which might go into more detail. Also, check out thi sthread on the tascam forums...
I take it you want to import the audio form the 788 to Cubase? If you have a SCSI CD writer then later versions of the 788 allow you to export tracks as .wav files which you should be able to import directly into Cubase. If it's and older 788 then the only way to import the individual tracks is...
Yes but that's subjective really isn't it? Fair enough some people don't like the sound of it, whatever, each to there own. But just 'cause you don't like the sound doesn't always mean it was spawned by satan him self!
If your live sound is good then it's pretty easy to capture it with a single mic. I use an SM58 pointing somewhere near the centre of the speaker cone and then add and extreme amount of 40-80hz boost on the mixer for that added "air". Sometimes I use the normal amp reverb with a short stereo...
Line 6! replaced my various pedals with a a MM4 modulation modeller and DL4 delay modeller. Easy to set up and sounds fantastic. (for those not familiar with these pedals, they basically contain about 15-20 patches of popular vintage stomp boxes)
I use a Marshall VS100 for both live an studio work. Great sounding amp. Much better than the newer AVT150 (and much louder too thanks to the latter being closed back). One thing that bugs me though is I can't find a VS112 extension cabinet anywhere (in the England anyway)
All depends if your 4 track has direct track outputs. If it does then simply plug each one into a 788 input.
Bit more tricky if you haven't but you could use the 4track's Pre fader AUX Sends if you have them. Two of the tracks would be recorded from the main LINE outputs (L & R). For the other...
I believe later software versions have the facility to export files as .wav using the CD-R burner.
I'm not exactly sure what benefit you are expecting to gain from using Cakewalk to mix the audio but you might want to check out the 788 Virtual Instrument panel for Cakewalk which I think is...
