Well I'm thinking about the MOTU 8Pre. I need to sell my Yamaha minidisc 4 track though... ANYONE?

How do people mix on hardware mixers??

I think you're right. I just sort of discovered Firewire Interfaces and I'm thinking I'll sell all I have right now and invest in one of those. BUT do I need an external soundcard to plug it into? Or can it go directly into the computer's line-in? AND does it record onto separate tracks in a...

How do people mix on hardware mixers??

Alright....man this is confusing. Where on the mixer do the cables come from coming out of the mixer into the tape deck, and where do they come out of the tape deck and where do they come back into the mixer? I don't think I can use my computer for what I've been describing, because I don't have...

How do people mix on hardware mixers??

I always read about and see people mixing tracks on hardware mixers. I'm so used to programs like Logic so I don't really understand. Are they running the instruments into the mixer, the mixer into an external multitrack, and running the multitrack back into the mixer to be able to use the...

    Mackie 1202

Anyone know anything about this mixer? I'm talking about the original "Micro Series", not the VLZ. How is it? How would it compare to a Behringer Xenyx mixer? Thanks

    Mixer to computer

Would you guys recommend recording with a minidisc multitrack (Yamaha MD4) or recording into Logic with a Behringer Xenyx mixer?

    Mixer to computer

At most I think I'll need 4 tracks at once. Can a USB/Firewire mixer actually separate tracks on a program like Logic? Or does it have its own software?

    Mixer to computer

My band often records songs in one take, i.e. everything mic'd with a single run-through. I'd like to be able to record right into Logic but have each instrument on a different track for mixing later, instead of one single track that I cant do anything with. Is there an easy way to do this? I...

What would be the best way to record a 3 piece drum kit?

My drum kit is very minimal - just a snare, kick, floor tom, crash, and hi-hat. I'm looking into recording, and just wanted to know what the best method would be to record this setup. The crash is on the right side next to the kick, and everything else is set up like your average drum kit. I was...

I'm ready to record somewhat seriously now...

I am planning on using 57s close miking the floor tom and snare, and two cheapo Samson condensers as overheads. 57s on the bass and guitar amps as well, as long as I can afford them. AND a 57 for vocals. As for the kick, I don't know if I'll be able to afford a Beta 52 or the like. My affording...

I'm ready to record somewhat seriously now...

I've been recording my band for a little while now, but have mostly put together really rough recordings with crappy mics and really ghetto techniques. First, I used a mixer going into a laptop with Logic, usually recording all instruments at the same time. Then, I got a Yamaha MD4 (minidisc...

I need some MD Data discs!!

Where can I find these? I've looked all over, and can't find somewhere that'll sell 1 disc for $10 or so without absurd shipping. Does anyone have any to sell me? I'm in desperate need! Thanks

Need some Tascam 424 sound clips

If anyone can lead me to some stuff recorded on a 424 (original or mkii), I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks

I need something to record on, and then be able to move to my computer

In Logic there's a feature where you can put stereo imaging on a mono track. Do all multitrack recorders do this automatically? Is there a difference between stereo imaging and just stereo?

I need something to record on, and then be able to move to my computer

Oh, so the minidisc isn't really a method of audio transfer, but just memory? Like a memory card or cassette, but in between? The Yamaha MD-4 and MD-8 along with the Sony MDM X4 units look to be pretty popular. Thanks so much for pointing those out to me. Forgot there was a medium between...

I need something to record on, and then be able to move to my computer

Thanks for the info. I've looked around at some minidisc recorders, and they definitely seem like a good option. Would I need to get a minidisc player for my computer to be able to transfer tracks from the disc to the computer?

I need something to record on, and then be able to move to my computer

What would I bounce it to? Could I just play it into Logic or something? Are there any recorders with just the bare minimum, 4 or 8 tracks and an output to bounce each track to the computer?

I need something to record on, and then be able to move to my computer

So most of them are like computer programs in their own container? I'm looking at a Fostex Mr8-MkII right now. Can it create automations for volume, effects, and EQ?

I need something to record on, and then be able to move to my computer

I started out recording into a mixer that went into a MacBook, but I don't always have access to the computer. I'm looking for something that I can just record onto, and be able to transfer the tracks into Logic to mix. I don't know if a 4 track will do this ok, but I just need some help. On...
