What Home Video Should Look Like- Julia Nunes

Not mine- I had nothing to do with it, just found it via NPR. But I LOVE this girl- so cute, so genuine. I esp. love the way her nostrils flare out at about 3:45. Julia Nunes: Homesick Anthems Spawn An Internet Star : NPR

Taking it out on the sound guy

I've never worked sound at clubs. Don't want to, for various reasons. But when I have worked a festival, I am happy to see a band have their own sound man. If he's good, and takes a gander at the board/system while the previous act is on stage, I usually brief him and then say, "Welcome...

painting the walls resulted in annoying high frequency reflections !! remedies ?

Carpet could hurt, but you can usually get used carpet from a crew for free, just for hauling it off. It may not be the cleanest, but you can beat the hell out of it before you lay it down, then rough-cut it and drop it in place. Have your band come in, play a few numbers, and see how you like...

painting the walls resulted in annoying high frequency reflections !! remedies ?

This is about the strangest thing I have heard, here. So strange, I just gotta think there is something else going on- that the paint could not have caused that.

    Microphoning Guitar cables....

Not sure, VP. The "test tone" feature may have potential for that. I've got a pro-quality cable tester, but it lacks that feature.

    "Guitar" Center rant

If I had the choice, I'd much rather go to a locally-owned shop than a GC, when away from home (well, when home, too.) I like meeting local people, and find owners of local shops tend to be happier to see out of town visitors. You might get a tip of a good player or jam session that you might...

Upgrading or Hot-Roding Cheap Drum Sets- Please Contribute

Not to further cloud the water, but there is one factor about wood that I have never seen mentioned. Different woods splinter or split more easily than others. In my view, this is important on drums because a wood that is less likely to splinter will hold it's edge better over the live of the...

Need ideas on how to repair a vintage tom

You might be. My read of the OP's situation is that perhaps the female threaded portion that is inside the lug, may have broken off or stripped out. I have not messed with vintage Gretch drums, but I have LOTS of experience with newer, cheaper Chinese-made "stencil brand" drums. The lugs on...

A Coiuple Questions About Power Amps

I'll take a stab at the questions I can answer. studio101nola.com is our professional recording and rehearsal studio- we (that being my son, David) use a dedicated studio monitor power amp. Currently it is an EV unit, but I don't recall the model. For my own, far less impressive setup here, I...

Y'a know, Ato, you are right. I have some interest in the unit, but I hate when people turn a CL post into an auction- this is basically the same thing. Sorry for my part in this.

"Time to say Goodbye" cover by Elena House

Of course I understand about the PM- the reason I suggested you PM me, instead of my going ahead and PM'ing you, is because I assumed/expected you would check with your parents, first. My adult son, David, owns and operates a recording and rehearsal studio in New Orleans- studio101NOLA.com...

I am still interested. Let me send one more email to David in New Orleans, and we can talk later. Where is the offer price, right now? (Obviously, I would have to beat it, but I can only be sure to do that if I know what it is.)

"Time to say Goodbye" cover by Elena House

Elana, I have been a supporter of your efforts almost as long as you have been a member of HR- and I think it's actually time to be frank. You have a wonderful voice, and I applaud your efforts. Even better that your parents insist on you financing your own work- an appreciation of what things...

Best "Lunchbox" amp for metal and more.

Okay, then! :D I'm of mixed emotions about it. OTOneH, I've gotten lots of use out of mine, as a grab-and-go amp, and I have seen others get lots of use- GK makes a very similar model that is basically a mini-PA/acoustic guitar amp that a trumpet player in New Orleans used for his French...

    Tentelometer Business Opportunity?

This thread https://homerecording.com/bbs/general-discussions/analog-only/wtb-tentelometer-339521/ has me thinking... If the company is closing due to BOTH lack of demand AND failing health of the owner, is there enough demand for someone to pick up the mantel? I might be interested if the...
