    Roland VS=880 Still Viable?

Am looking at a set of drums, and a VS-880 comes with. Have no real use for it- I have a Zoom R-16 and my son is WAY beyond this. Seems they date back to 1997, and don't sell for much- under $150- these days. Are they still viable? Does anybody still use/like them, can I sell it easily if I...

Oh, YEAH. Glass for Studio101nola.com is gonna cost over $7,000, plus install.

    electro-acoustic guitar

I respect your opinion, mjbphotos, and I would agree that an a/e guitar is nice to have in some live settings- you can dance around the stage all you want (no matter how absurd it makes you look) and your guitar signal still gets through. I just have SOOO disappointed with the sound I get and...

What To Do with a Toasted BP200 Pedal?

Some very encouraging replies, but I am tending to accept the tech's opinion that it is not worth repairing. Yes, ranjam, he said it was because "inappropriate" power was connected to the unit, but he seemed to think someone plugged the speaker-out into the input of the BP200 (as I recall, he...

What To Do with a Toasted BP200 Pedal?

I got one at a garage sale- free. Worth what I paid for it- turns out one of the transistors is so toasted it left a brown smear on the inside of the case. My tech tells me it's not worth repairing, and Digitech wants something obscene like $60 to fix it. Yeah, right. Whatever. But I think...

    electro-acoustic guitar

I'll second grim's post- I own a very nice Martin acoustic, and owned until just recently a very nice Seagull. I installed a piezo bridge pickup in the Martin, and man, I have NEVER been happy with the sound. More quack than a whole flock of strats- and neither the guitar nor the pickup are...

Article: A Modest Perspective on Home Recording

Yeah, good article- but 5 grand will disappear like a puff of smoke if buying pro-level gear... and interestingly, $20,000 is just about what we put into acoustic treatment and acoustic build-out at studio101nola (so far.) Do you have any idea what large, thick plates of glass cost?

AT 4041, Rode NT5, or other SDC?

I tend to think of the AT 40-series mics as the condenser equivalent of Shure SM58/57's- industry standard work horses, mics you can't go wrong with. But I have little or no experience with almost every other mic listed in this thread, so what do I know?

    writing originals vs. playing covers

Adding this to the already good advise here... Over the years, I have learned three ways to start a band: 1. Get a bunch of mates together, let everyone bring songs to the group which are more or less played, depending on how the group feels about them. From my experience (FME,) a recipe for...

Updates at Bargain Basement Recording of Duluth

Pool table on wheels is probably good for recording- moving it around- but not so good for shooting pool. You'd have to re-level the table every time you moved it. Why do people shoot pool, anyway? You can't eat 'em!

trs cables or xlr cable for active speakers ???

As usual, (always?) gecko tells the truth. The biggest difference may be XLR's lock into place, TRS's don't. Which is better for you is a matter of personal preference- if you trip over the cable, do you want to risk losing the signal to the speaker, or yanking the speaker off it's perch?

    Strat trem question

My USA Strat is from the late 90's, and has the "modern" trem bridge, whereas yours has the "vintage" one. I am told the vintage only allows dives, not climbs, but the modern allows both- but the former owner blocked it so it mostly only dives. Strings rarely ever go out of tune, and never...

    Fishman Piezo for Telecaster.

Yeah, this^ I have a piezo in my Martin acoustic, and although the guitar sounds great, the pup sounds bad. More quack than a dozen strats, very un-acoustic sound. IMHO, you gotta process the living hell out of a piezo to make it sound good, so I'd say go with a pre-amp. I've tried a Boss...

What Kind Of Guitar Owner Are You?

I don't fit into any of those categories. My guitar buying falls into three classes: 1) Guitars I saw (usually in a pawn shop) that looked interesting, were cheap/under priced and left-handed (the reason they were cheap- pawn brokers get stuck with lefty guitars all the time.) these I bought...

    ordered one of these .......

If you like the Behri unit well enough, my son has a V-Amp Pro (1-space rack mount) he never uses. Guys come into the studio, they have never used that unit, and the choices and option overwhelm them- in the studio, time is money, no one has time to figure out how to get their sound from a...

    Reliability of Some SS Amps: 3 Fenders, 1 Line 6, 1 Carvin, 2 Peaveys, 2 GK's

Jimistone, you obviously didn't read my post very well- "considered for sale." We probably won't be selling them all, but rather keeping the ones that may have better reliability. And anyway, I sell locally via craigslist, esp. when we are talking heavy, expensive to ship items like combo amps.

    Reliability of Some SS Amps: 3 Fenders, 1 Line 6, 1 Carvin, 2 Peaveys, 2 GK's

Thinning the herd at Studio101nola. We are WELL fixed for amps with great tone- recent stroke of luck took care of that- these are simply work-horses- all of them make decent enough tone and power, but reliability is something we can't be sure of- neither DJ nor I have enough experience with...

    Ampeg appreciation thread

I/we have four. An SS Bass head (can't recall model,) a RI Reverberocket 212, a vintage VT-40 (Lt. Bob and I have chatted about them quite a bit here,) and a mid-90's Jet J12T, same as one of the OPs. The Jet is here with me in Atlanta, the rest at studio101nola in New Orleans. I love the...

Alesis Adat Blackface noFo and er 9

I'm v. rusty on ADATS, but I'll take a stab. Working from leaky memory and not tons of experience with ADATS, so take everything I say with a grain of salt. Error messages can prevent the deck from proceeding. The transport mechanism is the weak link in an ADAT; it will set error messages...
