Most likely, you don't have the audio cable connected from your cd drive to the sound card. I assume you're plugging your headphones/speakers straight into the output on the cd drive. That's why u can hear the cd playing in the player. You should check the 4-pin audio cable connection.

I posted this question over on the newbie forum but hope to get better feedback over here. What are you guys talking about when you say a microphone is bright, flat, dark, etc?? Is there a website that I can hear the difference between what is bright and what is not?

I have a pair of wireless SM58's and one corded SM58. The corded one sounds quite different from the wireless ones. It's a bit more "muffled" for lack of a better term. Does anyone know why this might be? Is it common that the same model mics might sound different?
