Sonar 4 - To upgrade or not to upgrade. That is the question.

I'm still on 2.2; missed out on 3 due to lack of funds... If the money comes in, I think it might be time to upgrade.

Metronome: Can't find a good example

I've found it simpler to make a 1 measure metronome on an audio track, make it a groove clip, and drag it across the song. Much tighter than external MIDI, and much less taxing than using a VSTi. YMMV.

    Anyone using cakewalks VST-DX wrapper?

I've been using it since before cakewalk bought it. I've had some trouble with it, though it's hard to tell whether it's the wrapper's fault or the fault of a poorly coded VST. Honestly, 95% of the time it works fine. And it's the best money I've ever spent; most of my favorite plugs are VST...

    DualDiscs - Solution To Piracy?

I think glynb is right. Like it or not, physical mediums will go away. Any solution to piracy that involves a physical medium is temporary. The only reason CD's and DVD's still sell so well is that they're still by far the most convenient medium for most people. When hispeed internet becomes...

    Love and above

I have a mental list of rhymes I try to avoid, and this is one of them. You know, you don't have to have an amazing clever new rhyme on every line, but there are some that are just so over-used as to be painful to hear. "you" and "true", "trust" and "must", "baby" and "maybe", etc. I think...

    What is 'CC#' meaning?

It's worth mentioning that, with a few exceptions, those controllers are not standard. Check your MIDI implementation chart to see which CC's your device supports.

    Key of a song?

If you find it boring, that's your affair; personally, I've always found it interesting. I guess it's like science. For some people, the magic of a sunset is ruined by knowing that the sun is just a big ball of burning hydrogen and it only rises and sets because the earth is spinning about...

How Do You Find a Good Band Name?!?!

Yeah, those are the guys I know; not all of them, just one or two. My old band mate was close with the singer for a while, and we hired one of their guitar players for a gig once. Back in the day... Sorry; I know it's tough. You're gonna get criticism no matter what name you pick. Just...

How Do You Find a Good Band Name?!?!

I thought "Tate" was taken, but maybe I'm wrong. I forget how he spells his name. I knew some guys in that band. Anyway, I'm with the others; I think beer garden is an awful name, no offense. Sure you can go with the excuse that there are successful bands with dumb names out there, but that's...

    Digital Clicking When Mixing Down????

Are the tracks clipping? Try turning the master volume down and see if that helps... I find that Sonar seems easy to clip if you stick with default settings for volume.

Decent Orchestra Hits Loop CD Available?

If you just want hits, why do you need acid-style loops? Orchestra hits are part of the GM standard. Any GM standard synth should have orchestra hits (although they're probably cheesy sounding). Scour the web for orchestra hit samples. Just a thought, before you spend money.

An Idea - Unite With Another Singer Song Writer

Collaboration is wonderful, though it takes time and humility to work out a good working relationship. It's a lot like marriage, really. You have to be willing to get your great ideas slapped down in the mud now and then without getting mad. It's good to find someone who compliments your...

    Song structuring

I typically let the lyrics dictate the structure of the song, unless I'm specifically writing it for a pop thing. I guess that doesn't really work if you're doing instrumental stuff, or if your lyrics don't have a logical flow to them. When I do instrumental stuff, the thing that really helps...

triton xtreme or motif need help

They are both fine machines by fine companies. You'll find loyal fans of both telling you to get one or the other. The only genuinely useful way of determining which one is right for you is to haunt you local music store for a couple weeks trying out each one until you figure out which one...

My old band used the rare verb band name ("spinaround"). Not too many band names are just straight up verbs.

    now hiring

You're definitely going to have to comp office expenses. Just booking our band and sending out presskits could cost anywhere from $200-$300 a month in phone charges, postage, and office supplies. Not to mention the cost of a hispeed internet connection. Around here hispeed internet is $65/mo...

Show me your press kit / promo pack

I'm sure you've all noticed the other thread, but in case you haven't, I shared my limited wisdom on bio writing here: http://www.alandmoore.com/ramblings/WriteABio.htm Personally, I highly recommend going with a physical presskit rather than simply a virtual one. By all means you should have...
