I am a newb, sorta, so bear with me. Ok, heres what I do. Set up my mics and position my instrument voice, etc. Set my faders on my mixer to 0 db. Set my faders in Sonar to 0 db. Test the mic and set my gain on the mixer till im hitting around -12 db in sonar. Record. Mix, then bump my...

jparnell, I think you are insane. why cant I track at -15 and sum when I mix to just under clipping? splain plweez?

In reason when I want to record a new line with an instrument it pops up a new sub track under the original just by pressing record again .....is there a way to set up sonar 8 to do this? or do I just have to clone tracks in a sub folder every time?

Well, it sounds great! Now I just compared to ray lamontagne in windows media and really yours is not much quieter, but Im no expert. I really like the way it sounds. Jason

Where is all this stuff plugged in? Try plugging your computer into a different outlet, even a different room... preferably not on a circuit with the fridge, hot water heater, dish washer, laundry, .......... I had similar issues until I plugged my laptop into its own outlet.. good luck...

My partner just picked up this mixer for our studio. Stoked! 16 in and 16 out back to the mixer via firewire! He also bought a hella fast threaded quad core computer. Can't wait to get to it!! I have not had much experience mixing the old school way but I am curious how that would go with this...
