recommend me a vocal mic for this type of sound

An Omni-directional mic wouldn't have the proximity effect you're experiencing, but I guess it being an omni would defeat the whole purpose for singing closer to the mic. Any condensor mic is just going to make your situation worse. They pick up EVERYTHING in the room and often have an even more...

Prioritize...mic, software, compressor, or sound card?

You made a good decision. You should hear a big difference in the quality of your recordings. Next get a good set of monitors and a decent preamp like the dmp3 and you're good to go.

Filling up the rack with crap

This thread is from almost a year ago...... wtf?

    Newbie S.O.S

If I had to target one thing in that chain that was hurting the recordings the most I would definitely say it was the soundcard. You guys are WAY too hung up on mics. The shure pg series are not very good mics and behringer mixers are kinda noisy, but at least they are meant to be useable for...

    vocals are quiet?

Unless it's an e865 or an e614 then it does not need PHANTOM POWER. I would think that the mic pre on the roland should amplify your sennheiser just fine, but it is possible, though unlikely that the roland pre's just don't provide enough gain. In that case, you need a better pre. However, the...

    Really Cheap Mic Preamps

$80 for the dmp3? Where? I've never even seen them for that price used.

    Check out this bassguitar sound

It's a little meaty and unrefined for the style, but other than that I think it sounds great. Nice playing btw. My guess would be that it is a lower end bass (under 400). It doesn't sound like a fender, and it definitely has a jazz pickup on the bridge, so I'd venture to say it's a yamaha or...

    Focusrite or Presonus?

Here's a recent thread where someone prefered the Sytek to a Great River using a soundelux u195. Just keep in mind that this is just one person's opinion, and that most people would rather own the great river. It just goes to show that the sytek can hold its own among the more expensive pres.

    Focusrite or Presonus?

http://www.mojopie.com/sytek.html Mojo pie also has reviews for the rnc and rnp if you want to check them out. You can also run a search for sytek, rnp, or rnc at any of these forums: http://www.homerecording.com/bbs http://www.gearslutz.com http://recpit.prosoundweb.com/ All of the pres that...

    Marshall 4x12, 2x12 or 1x12?

Forget about marshall cabs. I'll second avatar. Save some cash and get a better quality cab: http://www.avatarspeakers.com

    Focusrite or Presonus?

If you are looking at the presonus mp20, then you should check out the fmr rnp instead. they are both the same price, and two channels, but IMHO the rnp sounds much, much better than anything presonus makes. Some would even venture to say that the rnp can compete with pres that cost over a...

    rudimentary bass rig achieved

I would also recommend blue steel. They sound great and last longer, but you HAVE to get the NICKLE PLATED ones! IMHO the ones without the nickle plating feel awful, your fingers will stick to them when you slide up and down the neck, and no amount of lube will help. This makes them very noisy...

    rudimentary bass rig achieved

Any brand name nickle plated round wound strings will do fine, but unfortunately bass strings tend to need to be replaced even more often than guitar strings if you want to keep them nice and punchy sounding. Bass strings will suffer worse from the "dead string sound" faster than guitar strings...

    Sennheiser MD 421 for kick

The atm25 is also a very versatile mic that is good for kick as well as many other applications. However, if cost wasn't an issue I'd probably lean towards then md421 as well.

    Really Cheap Mic Preamps

They are not even worth wasting your money. IMHO your best bet for cheap preamps is to buy a yamaha mg series mixer. That way you can get six perfectly okay and usable pres for 200 bucks, and you will probably find the mixer very useful too.

    computer expert needed!

God Forbid. I just figured that someone building their own computer would be a little more tech savy than the average person buying a printer at office depot. I love the people that work at the help desks or on the tech suport phone lines. As soon as you ask them any real question about a real...

    computer expert needed!

This is simply not true. It could still be a number of things. For one, the motherboard needs a correctly installed, working, and compatible processor to post. So it could be an incorrect processor installation, bad processor, or wrong processor for the board. It could also be a ram conflict. A...

    Cheap but not crap monitors

I'd spend some money on a good set of monitors way before I laid down that kind of cash for an avalon 737 or a rode ntk. If you are planning on investing that much money into a project studio then at least buy the bx8s, which are some decent entry level monitors. Trust me, my first pair of...

    computer expert needed!

The problem is not necessarily the motherboard. I wouldn't be so quick to start ordering new parts. What would be really helpful is to find a computer savy friend with a similar machine that you can swap parts with just to start narrowing things down. Just pay him 20-30 bucks to exchange his...
