    Using pads

    thanks guys. lots of good advice here. I'll be sure to keep all your words in mind. I'm thinking i'm gonna use somethin light and airy, perhaps with just a smidge of sadness to it, and it'll follower the guitars' chord progression and sort of just fill in the sound where you don't really notice...

    Using pads

    I've never really used pads before, but I read somewhere how alot of artists/bands use pads in their recordings to fill in the sound. I was thinking of using an airy, light pad on a black metalish song i'm working on. How would I go about placing it in the mix?

    A request for all members

    i agree with andy hix. While you should probably try to find stuff out on your own through reading a manual first or experimenting, sometimes it's alot faster or will help you understand better to ask on the board. I mean, thats what its for. If you're gonna recommend a book or website in your...

    Heaviness=muddiness. grr.

    It seems I can't get a heavy, strong, firm, loud, brutal wall of guitars without sounding like muddy shit. I reduce the amount of takes, it sounds too thin, i increase the amount of takes, its heavier but jumbled. When I try to eq it to sound less muddy, it just ends up sounding weak. Anyone...

    Best sounding album you have ever heard?

    yeah, i agree thats probably how they intended them to sound. If you're working for the beatles,or any other major group, you dont half-ass their album; you get it exactly as they want it. And I also think that not every album needs to have cookie-cutter, squeaky-clean mix on it. It's good to...

    Best sounding album you have ever heard?

    i dunno. i love the beatles, but when you're talking sound quality of their albums, i wouldnt always put them up in the high ranks. On certain speakers, their mixes are just...well, disgusting. For example, on my Studiophile's, the bass part on "Michelle" is just obnoxious, and the drums...

    General questions about advanced recording/mixing

    well, with only one mic on the whole kit, you're not going to be able to pan each drum seperately, so on that one, i guess your answer is it can't be done with the equipment you have to use.

    Casio Keyboard question

    I've been wondering for a long time why Reason wouldnt recognize my keyboard. Then a friend told me that with some casio keyboards, you have to manually turn the midi in. I looked at the keyboard and saw a button that said tune/transpose/midi, but not sure how to use it. I own a casio ctk-511...

    Hermione and Something Special

    i like the songs. But I dunno, I'd be a little hesitant about using the name "Hermione", just 'cause everyone who hears it is immediately gonna ask you" So, it's about harry potter, right?" Well, maybe nt everyone, but most.
