First; the distortion is because of the clipping. Turn down the input gain of his channel so that the clipping light doesn't go on anymore. Then turn up his vulome with the fader of the channel and the overal volume of the mixer, to get the required volume. The sound bouncing problem can be...

If it the hum / hiss / whatever changes when you touch it, then it's a grounding issue for sure. Maybe you're not using a grounded power socket? Otherwise a tech can fix it in no time.

That's right. Use another mic to test the cable, or use another cable to test the mic. Easy Peasy... It's alway's a good to have spare cables anyway for situations like these. PS. Just checking, but did you turn the phantom power on?

Tinker by all means of course... ... but we had an interesting discussion here last week on condensers: If the best possible dynamic mic costs up to $400 and the best possible condenser costs up too $5000. What does that tell you about how a $100 dynamic compares to a $100 condenser? A couple...

It's not a top-of-the-range mic, but I've heard very good things about it. If what I've heard is correct you should get workable results. Kip4's tips should prove very helpful in having the mic perform to the best of it's ability.

Well, I haven't used them, but there's a lot of simular condensers in that price range which are all more or less the same mic (made in China). I'm betting these are no different. Why would you spend $80 on a couple of mediocre mics and then invest a lot of time in them too? If you like to...

I'd get the speaker and change the open back cab into a closed back with a removeable back. Then see which sound you like best; closed or open back. Good luck.

To cut a long story short; a guy I know owed me a favour, so he gave me some of his old gear. Among it is a pair of Digitech DSP 256 XL rack multi effects processors. I'm going to try them out next weekend, in the mean time I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with them.

Oh dear, quite an attitude, and that on just a second post :P 454's are great, but you have to keep in mind that they've made them troughout the 60's and 70's (and I believe 50's), so if you buy used ones the output may be low simply because the mic is older. And always make sure you've got one...

The reason is fairly obvious of course. You can get all kinds of great dynamic mics for a steal. Used AKG, Shure', EV, ATM dynamics go in the $20 to $40 pricerange (with a little brains and effort of course). Eat just spinach and fish fingers for a week and you've saved up for a new mic. Even...

I have the right connector for that mic. They're hard to get so you're in luck. I need the mic though to connect to a cable and test. Do you know how to solder yourself?
