Vocal Grit for Live Work - Mic or Preamp

Basicly, check out what blues harmonica players use to get a gritty sound. The mentioned Green Bullet is a harmonica mic. There's a lot of youtube clips on harmonica mics, browse around for a bit. I guess a sm57 would also be better, it is infact the same mic as the sm58, but the different head...

    which new compressor

Just bumbing in here. I'm looking to buy a multi chanel compressor soon. I was looking at the DBX 1046, but I just read about the Presonus ACP88 here. Does anyone have a clue to how the DBX and the Presonus compare?

    Microphones

I have no experience with them. If they carry Neumann maybe you could look into those KM84's of 184's, which are apparently very good. If he can get Shure maybe he can get SM81's, maybe there are some more tips from other users. Maybe they can get Octava MK/MC 012's.

    Microphones

Do keep in mind what we said about the SDC's! The mics you want to buy now are (as said) great mics, but are not the ussual go-to mics for your current set up. Acoustic guitars are generally recorded with SDC's. The mics you're buying are High End Dynamic mics, the TLM's are LDC's.

Please don't get the TLM 103. It's not a bad microphone, but really overpriced for what you get. You're mostly paying for the name in this case. If you're set on a Neumann, I undertstand the TLM 102 is a better option (though I don't speak from experience on that mic.). A pair of MD421's and a...

Buying used mic on the "bay" a good or bad idea?

+1 Most of my mics are used as well. You can buy much more mics for the same amount. Be clever! I have all kinds of ways to find great mics dirt, dirt cheap (without stealing of course).

    seriously?

Now why didn't I think of that? I guess I'll be off to church next sunday then, to see if I can redeem a couple of mics on the cheap. :spank:

    seriously?

I didn't realise you guys were so religious, churches mostly get demolished here in Holland. I guess the end is near.... But I believe it was Beethoven (a musician I tend to take seriously) who said music is the voice of god. I suppose it makes sense to mic god's voice with some...

Most annoying question asked on this board

"I want to sound like GG Allin. I've got a $10,000 budgut. Will a pair of U87's do?" :drunk: I hate those guys.

    Best Mic For Sexy Vocals

Maybe you can find out what Barry White used to use. Allthough I think 50% of sexy vocals is the vocalist himself, singing/talking low, relaxed and with lots of air.

playing guitar thru a bass amp

I own a Bassman too, I play both guitar and bass through it, depending on what have you. If I understand correctly Marshall guitar amps were initially modelled on the Fender Bassman. The Bassman has one channel for Bass instruments and one for "Normal" instruments, so it's not strictly a Bass amp.
