What would you use for a DEEEP voice?

    Probably an Audix D6.

Best Mic Pre under $300 Poll..

So even if you got one new ($225, possibly $200ish), do you think that might be a better bet than a DMP3? I know this is all often preference and situation based stuff, but I'm just curious. For example, Chessrock said that if he "had to do it all over," he would just get a few Rane MS1bs. I...

anyone know anything about reel to reel?

If you record stuff to tape, and then send it to your computer for editing and mix down through some really kick ass A/D converters, do you retain the "warmth?" It's not like I could afford that or anything lol, I just wondered if that really worked, or if you lost out in the conversion part no...

so i finally got my monitor speakers back..5 weeks later

That's perfectly understandable. My judgment of your situation is that those monitors are POS. I mean, what if they break on you again? Do you even know that they are working as intended after all that? If I had something break, I wouldn't want it fixed. I'd just want a refund, or a...

WTF? D112 Question - with audio sample

Out of curiosity, how does not using it cause that to happen?

Best Mic Pre under $300 Poll..

If you need lots of channels (like for drums or something), you could always get a DMP3 AND a few MS1bs. Just split up your investment over time, and pick up each piece along the way. Btw, are you in school? Those DMP3s on Ebay tend to go for $140, which I think is pretty freaking stupid. At...

Best Mic Pre under $300 Poll..

Did you mean the 302? I've never heard of that brand before. I looked it up, and found no 200 something models, but there is a 302 dual mic pre. It runs $225 at B&H Photo, and Full Compass also sells it, surely for less. Sounds like a contender. I'd be very interested in a comparison...

Purchased a new mic for 14 year old female vocalist

Man, I would buy a better pre ASAP. I wouldn't put down that kind of money for a dynamic mic to be used with just the sound card's pres. Atleast do it some justice and get a DMP3 or MS1b.

Best Mic Pre under $300 Poll..

As I said, if you can do better than a DMP3, then go for it. The Rane MS1b is $150 for one channel, whereas the DMP3 is about the same for two, which immediately suggests something. The DMP3 is generally regarded as just a really good deal, but just barely, not quite a "great" mic pre. It's...

Any great alternative to the SM57 for the snare?

Those are all VERY good points. I think that bottom snare mics are really only necessary on certain kinds of snare drums, where the sound of the snare "crack," for whatever reason, doesn't make it up through the drum to a mic right above it. If it's really not the drum, it COULD be due to the...

Best way to get 8 ins?

 Lol now that's high quality entertainment.

Best Mic Pre under $300 Poll..

IMO, you already sort of wasted money by buying the cheap pres and comp. I would NEVER suggest those to anyone, because just a little bit more money gets you a keeper pre, while those others often end up completely useless. Don't repeat that again. Just get a DMP3 and RNC. If you can manage...

    Guitar Amp mics

OK cool. Thanks for clearing that up. Some people act like it is just plain better because it is the more expensive "beta" model, like the SMs are the cheaper versions or something. Looking at the frequency response charts though, they are obviously completely different, and their prices are...

    Guitar Amp mics

Anybody here ever compared a Beta 57 to some of those? I've heard that it is outright better than the SM57, but then again, I rarely see anyone talk about it.

    Preamp Schematics

As long as it doesn't require a lot of parts, I can't see it being that difficult. I know the cheaper stuff isn't really electrically complicated, and that is the kind of thing you do with the INA217 chip, right? All I really care to do is make something, say, better than an Audio Buddy, but...

Oh good grief lol. I specifically asked if this was hard to do earlier on in this thread and I was told it wasn't lmao.

Looking to get a new mic for vocals and guitar. $0-800 please recommend!

If its for ELECTRIC guitar, you should check out some of the "nicer" dynamic mics, like the EV RE20 and the Sennheiser 421 MKII. I hope you have a good preamp to complement buying a nice mic, though.

    Preamp Schematics

Sorry to resurrect an old dead thread, but I got one of those INA217 samples from Texas Instruments in. It is just one tiny little black chip thing. How big is all of it together? I was under the impression that you get both of the INA217 samples they had, and then put them together somehow...
