The Peluso mics I know of are not at all cheap mics so the "OMG" factor doesn't factor in to a $1,200+ mic. A mic in that price range should sound great.

Well you're not going to get a low-fi sound simply by not recording with DBX and I've never found it useful on play back to engage DBX if you didn't record with it, just a bunch of pumping and garbled noise. Just my opinion, your mileage may vary.

Sounds a bit muddy to me. It might work good in a sparse acoustic based song, but I'm not sure it would work in a dense mix with loud instruments. Then again you never really know until you try.
