    Best Freebie Plugs??

MAN... i just tried the TLS maximizer and it kicks ass. Probably the best free plug i've used and i think its way better than wavearts Final Plug. I got good rms levels with no distortion. I just added a bit of compression and then used the maximizer. Very good. Thanks for the info on that plug!

    Compressor or Limiter??

Can somebody explain the difference between the two?? for example, I've used the W1 limiter plugin (supposed to be a L2 clone??) and it does a very comparable job in getting a songs apparent loudness up to that of a song that has been totally squashed with compression. The difference i see is...

    RMS normalization??

thanks for the tips. I think i'll stick with using compression and limiting. Ive been using Voxengo's Span Rms meter and i notice alot of commercial cd's register alot of clip instances, yet the overall product sounds good and never goes over 0bd. I try to get my final mixes at around -15rms...

The Next Step Up From Audacity?

I highly recommend Magix Music Studio 11. Its a "budget" software around 80 bucks and i would pick it over Cubase anyday. I have used cubase and didnt like it at all. Magix has lots of features for audio and midi and lots of input/output routing options as well. Very compatible with alot of...

Interface advice wanted: Edirol, Focusrite, M-audio Presonus? - best bang for the $

i have a firebox, and yes it does have 4 analog/line ins. I have had no problems with it and the set up was extremely easy and didnt have to download any new drivers. Works great. The only downside might be that the preamps are kinda weak when trying to record acoustic guitar, but i dont think...

    Where to place these instruments??

when u say "vocals slight panning with lead dead center".... what exactly do u mean?? also, ive listened to a whole bunch of recordings from the 50's and it seems as if drums are pretty distant and not ever the focus. Should this always be the case nowadays??

    Where to place these instruments??

I'm recording pretty traditional rockabilly. This is what we use.... Upright bass, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, vocals, and one snare drum. Pretty simple. So far on a few songs I have placed the bass and vocals dead center, electric guitar i've panned a few db's off center to the right and...

    stop the bleed

we do "live multitracking" all the time. Vocals, guitar, snare drum, and upright bass. The room isnt that big either. The finsihed product sounds pretty decent and cant even notice any bleed. If some bleed is noticeable, say in the vocal track, while there is just music and no lyrics going...
