Need a first LDC for home studio

Interesting. That's exactly the opposite of what I would have thought. I would think that things that already have a lot of high end sizzle would NOT want a bump in those areas that would exaggerate it. Of course, I don't record cymbals, and the LAST thing my voice needs is more sibilance. What...

Need a first LDC for home studio

What type of vocal application would you say needs that boost? My problem with condensers in general is their sensitivity, considering I have such a noisy, bad sounding space. The fact that I'm not a very loud singer doesn't help.

Need a first LDC for home studio

Sounds cool. Hope he posts some when he gets it done.

Need a first LDC for home studio

And from what I remember, the reviews of the C1 were good overall, but I think it was supposed to be just a tad on the bright side too. But then, maybe that's what you want. And I swear, if I ever made a post where I didn't have to go back and edit it because of my inability to type, I don't...

Need a first LDC for home studio

Good to know. What's your take on the MXL as being 'dark'? And the bump and dip, are those in the NT1, or the 1A?

    I need a new amp.

Sorry if I missed it, but what did you end up getting?

Need a first LDC for home studio

Not that I'm saying that I have any idea about what you need, but I'll just throw this in here. I wouldn't necessarily 'assume' that you NEED an LDC. You probably want one, especially for the other vocals, but I've only got one LCD, an MXL V67G. Not exactly high end, I know, but I got into this...

    Cheap ccntroller?

I can only find one for sale, and it's $850 if you include shipping. Not what I was considering cheap, but thanks anyway.

Things that make me go hmm...

Well, I've done it and it's a pretty common practice among the guys I know. I find it unusual that NONE of you have done it. I've done the baby powder thing too. I just thought it was odd that I've never seen anyone do it to an acoustic.

FMR RNC 1773- rabbit hole in 2020

Well, I thought the SM mode was supposed to mostly be good specifically on bass and mix buss. But now that most people are doing it ITB, I'm not even sure how you would do an external mix buss. I'm sure it can be done, like reamping, but I'd have to take some time to figure it out. But I thought...

Things that make me go hmm...

A lot of guys sand the back of their guitar necks, but I don't know that I've ever seen this done on an acoustic. Why is that? Or have I just not noticed? These are the kind of random thoughts that pop into my head out of nowhere.

Power Conditioner - Inverter - Temporary Power Supply

Yeah, rereading your post, 'several' desktops and 'other equipment' sounds like a lot of juice, even for a couple of minutes. If it's only for a few seconds, that's a little better, but maybe not much, depending on the total draw. Like CC said, add up the total draw, plus the amount of time...

    old Alesis QS8 question

So what did you think of yours? Was it a QS8 or a QS8.1?

    old Alesis QS8 question

I didn't know if standards had changed, or if there were any sort of drivers needed for there to be a compatibility issue. Thanks!:thumbs up:

FMR RNC 1773- rabbit hole in 2020

I've always wanted one, not because of him but just because of the general consensus that it was pretty subtle and easy to use. And I could never even afford IT, let alone the more expensive competition. It's still on my list. I'd like an RNP too, but that's much less important in my equation...

    old Alesis QS8 question

Or would this be better in the MIDI forum? There's so much crossover.

    old Alesis QS8 question

I can get one dirt cheap, but the guy isn't sure if it can be used as a controller for VST instruments. It has midi in, through, and out, so I would think so, but it's really old and I don't know jack about midi and keyboards and the evolution of their standards. It has fully weighted keys, so...

Power Conditioner - Inverter - Temporary Power Supply

Just go to the Best Buy website (or something similar), go to the computer section, and look for UPS. A bunch of options depending on your need and budget. Conditioning and protecting yourself from outages that last only a few seconds to a couple of minutes is the cheapest of the UPS solutions...

    I need a new amp.

OK, one more thing... :D I want to thank the OP for starting me thinking about this again, but in a new way. Sometimes trying to give someone else advice helps you to sort of talk the issue out with yourself. I've come to the realization that what I want to do is to get two Wampler Black '65s...

    I need a new amp.

OK, then I'll end my advice with this. I was also going to suggest a Blues Jr, for the reasons described, and it's a great pedal platform. And you said you liked the Fender sound. The other recommendation was for a Tech 21 Power engine, which is a solid state basically power amp meant to run...
