    digi001 vs delta 44

Yep. That sucks... http://www.digidesign.com/compato/xp/001/ The Digi 001 is getting sold once I get it. From DigiDesign Website:   Digidesign Software Compatibility   Pro Tools LE 6.1 for Mac OS X & Windows XP   Pro Tools software will not work in "standalone" mode without the Digidesign...

    digi001 vs delta 44

Are you serious? That sucks. I am getting one in a lot of studio equipment I am getting off of work and I was thinking that I would use it since it is in the lot of equip instead of buying a MOTU 828mkII, but if that is the case, the Digi 001 is getting sold and I am buying the MOTU 828mkII. I...

need a recording program that does these things:

You probably want to look into something like Sonic Foundry Vegas Audio. It's a multi-track recorder that has MIDI support as well as what you are looking to do with create songs out of "bytes". It also uses loops that you can download or buy for even more excentric sounds.

Does this sound valid? Gimme so feedback on this one..............

Studio Monitors ARE essential. It's the basic principle of garbage in garbage out. If you are mixing on a set of home theater speakers or worse yet... headphones... then your sound is not going to be very accurate. Granted, headphones can be very accurate, but you want the mix to be accurate in...

    Chart Of General Compressor Settings

This is depending on what what I am doing of course (and may show my ignorance, but it seems to work for me), but I generally find myself setting the threshold at somewhere aroun -9 db below the peak on the track and dialing in how much compression I need from there. Nothing ever stays that way...

    studio cables

You are going to want to use snake cable, but the best way to do it is to buy bulk cable per foot and put your own connectors on it. Mogami makes a good cable. http://www.studiowiring.com/mogami.html

Recording to laptops via mic input

These guys are correct. Almost any normal sound cars be it a laptop or not has a noisy mic input. The preamps are pretty cheap. Not to mention that is you are running a line level device into it then you are causing the preamp in the laptop to clip and distort, so the only way to go with a...

Graphics card for a Studio Computer

ATI makes a wonderful card. I have had several other cards in the past and I have never bee as satisfied as I am with the ATI cards that I have used. The ATI ALL-IN-WONDER 9000 PRO is a good card and it is only $199.99. There are cheaper ones available though.

    Building a New PC!

Well, for all practical purposes, SATA would be an entire rebuild for me. I'm running a P4 with a 400 MHz FSB, so if I were to make the jump to SATA then I would want to get a new board that has SATA on it instead of getting an add-in card. And when I get a new board, I may as well get a board...

Building NEW PC in few days !!! Need help!

I have had a couple of FIC Boards that has a Via chipset on them and I have had no problems with them. I still have them and they both still work great. They are slow (AMD K6-2 450 and 500), but they get the job done!

    Building a New PC!

I think SATA needs to come down before it will be worth it. Right now I am running a P4 2.7G(oc) 1G of RAM and RAID 0 (fast, but unsafe) and my largest project has 86 tracks in SF Acid with real time effects on all of them and I can play through the whole thing with no glitches on a cheap sound...

    soundcard and mixer help

The only thin you'd really use the mixer for in your setup would really be for the mic pre-amps. If you have processors or pre-amps for your instruments, they are already going to be at line-level, so the less you put between the processor/preamp the better. As far as your mics go, you can use...
