    Mains power cleaning

I read an article somewherer that some UPS systems run at a lower voltage at times, sometimes up to half of the required voltge and that can seriously affect equipments performance. I can't remember where I read this, I wish I could as it was an interesting article, maybe I've remembered wrong...

    Mains power cleaning

I forgot to mention in my earlier post that I have had all the electrics inspected and passed with a 100% bill of health by a qualified electrician recently. Anyone know much about balanced power?

    Mains power cleaning

I have never used any power conditioning just good quality multi IEC outputs and never had many problems. However in the last 6 months light bulbs have been blowing like crazy in the studio, it certainly shows that there is a problem with the incoming mains and I dread to think what it is doing...

Any tricks or tips for setting up your Monitors

A couple of things spring to mind from your drawing. I'm no expert on acoustics but just a couple of potential problems I can see. 1. There is often an unatural bass boost when monitors are placed to close to the front wall so try moving them into the room a couple fo feet if space allows. 2...

Any tricks or tips for setting up your Monitors

I have always personally thought that if your speakers are 4' apart then you should be about 3'-3.5' away from them. I was always told and have found from experience that the idea is to get your head 'inside' the sound field. If you sit the same distance from the speakers as they are apart in an...

Any tricks or tips for setting up your Monitors

I just kept playing favourite CD's that I've listened to a million times and know the sound of, as many differnet styles as possible until I felt the speakers were sounding balanced. I've always been a 'use the ears' man first and foremost. I've also got a hi-fi evaluation CD which a friend gave...

Does any-1 else besides me run thier mixes thru a pre?

That's an interesting thought. Would you use DI boxes if the mic pre only has mix inputs?

Any tricks or tips for setting up your Monitors

It depends what type of monitors they are, it would be almost impossible to give an answer about main monitors as they are so dependant on the room. If nearfields then approximately 4 feet apart angled in at 60 degrees approxiamately 4 feet from the listening position so if you imagine lines...

DynosBM6A + Why dont you like subs?

I've never used a satellite & subs combination, never really heard a system properly. I've thought in the past about maybe purchasing some small Genelecs or Dynaudios and a sub though. Then last week I went to a friends studio and he had a pair of M&K's with a sub, I hated them !! Loads of bass...

    Crossover recommendations

I've been looking at the Ashly XR-2001 today a 3 way stereo crossover, looks really impressive and will do all I want it to do. I can't seem to find a web site for Ashly, anyone know if they have one? Also anyone got any first hand experience of Ashly gear, is the build, sound quality good etc...

    Crossover recommendations

Cheers for the recommendation on the Berhinger, I wouldn't usually touch Beringher with a barge pole but I'll have a good look at that unit. I looked at the Scan-speak Revelator and the Ring Radiator. I haven't fully decided on the exact treble unit I'll use yet, but I was looking to build some...

    Crossover recommendations

The ATC SCM150 monitors that I am pretty much copying have crossover frequencies of 380 Hz and 3.5 Khz. That's an interesting point about the type of filters needed. After some more research I'm keen on the ATC EC23, does anyone have much experience with this crossover?

    Crossover recommendations

I'm thinking of building some main monitors to replace my Tannoy DMT 15 MkII's. I've looked into ATC's P4 monoblock amplifier and crossover but it weighs in at £4500 (roughly $8100) and of course I'd need 2 so I've been thinking of a cheaper solution using some of the kit I have already. I've...

SE Electronics SE3 - Drum Overheads

I just found out the price os a single SE3 over here, £120 (roughly $216). That's nearly a quarter of the price of the SM81 here in the UK. I can't believe how cheap some of the gear is over in the states and how much we get overcharged here.
