Need some tips for improving acoustics

Hmm, actually I could put some corner traps to the back corners just below the ceiling. I guess that would be good? I thought those traps were bigger but looking closely they would actually fit there. Do you think having them in the back corners would be enough or should I have a trap in every...

Need some tips for improving acoustics

Just moved to my new appartment and if the previous one had horrible acoustics, I think this one has even worse. :p There are only two rooms so you can't hope for a dedicated mixing room. So the "mixing room" will be the living room and kitchen at the same time and there surely won't be too...

    stereo doubling that doesn't suck

After that play it mono and it will sound even more indistinct! :)

    Now then

Hmm, you said the piano is not real, so you didn't possibly happen to record it as a midi first? Or did you record it straight away as audio? In the first case you could send me the midi file and I could use my libraries to give you some options for a better piano sound. They wouldn't be perfect...

    stereo doubling that doesn't suck

Well Im not sure if I understood your problem right but what I know is that if you have to identical tracks and you pan other one left and other one right and add a short delay to the other one, you will get Haas effect which makes it sound like it's panned to the side that has no delay. Try...

Can someone tell me how to improve my mix?...

I don't listen to this type of music at all, but to me the mix sounds good. I can't hear any problems with it. I think the vocals might have more reverb than usually in this kind of music, but I'm not sure at all (because as I said I don't listen to rap music) and it doesn't sound bad either...

    Now then

Interesting in deed, nice song. But I think it sounds quite dull and muddy and distant. Probably because all the instruments (and vocals) are in quite low register and I think there is something wrong with the piano sound. Not sure if it is more because of instrumentation (how the chords are...

Did everyone struggle to learn to mix...

 Unless that plugin works very differently from all the others I know, those -12 cents and 14ms have absolutely no meaning because you are using 0% of the affected signal. Some good advices there, like don't use presets, but I would like to emphasize that every mix needs different...

    this is getting aggravating

If it feels too hard, try mixing 20 tracks of symphonic orchestra stuff with a ready melodic metal song. After that I bet your current problem doesn't seem too complicated after all. ;) :D PS: Yes, I've done that. No, it didn't work out too well..

What's the best way to move the first chorus to the 2nd/3rd so it'll be on beat?

    1 bar is (240/tempo) seconds.

i want to practice on mixing

I don't think that all newbies own guitar, bass, drumset and equipment to record them, not to talk about being able to play them all. And not everyone who wants to mix is a good singer either. (Of course they might have friends who do.) My own songs are always made with VST's so when I was...

Dream (pop-rock song) - Remix in progress

Agreed. :) The singing is quite inaccurate, but I'll try to fix that at least when it comes to pitch. I guess I leave timing of the words mostly untouched. At least some parts will have double tracking in the new mix (in places where it is possible to make two good and nearly identical comb...

Dream (pop-rock song) - Remix in progress

Strange  It should be normal mp3. The link still works fine for me. Here is a download link for wma-file: http://www.box.net/shared/y6kpcq63qa

Dream (pop-rock song) - Remix in progress

Question #1: For some reason many of the background vocals sound very nasal, and it gets worse after using autotune (they are badly off pitch). Any tips on how to lessen it? Is it just EQ or are there other tools that might be suitable?

i want to practice on mixing

I was asking for same maybe a year ago. Nice link btw! I hope someone knows more of those.

Metal song, needs some mixing advice!

I think the bass also needs compression and maybe EQ. Most of the time its not heard but here and there suddenly appears some undefined boomy sound.

What I've been up to lately... (Metal)

You could get some sampled guitar+bass+drums library (Ministry of rock by Eastwest is quite good IMO though their products are ment for soundtrack stuff I guess) but I'm not sure if using midi and daw for what you are doing would be too hard. Guitar pro is made for guitar players so it might be...

Dream (pop-rock song) - Remix in progress

Thanks for the comment! :) Yep, I think I'll go trough all the instruments again (there were so many noob-mistakes in the original, like compressing something without knowing why, that I decided it would be better to start again from the beginning instead of trying to remember what I was...

Dream (pop-rock song) - Remix in progress

After reading some mixing books and practising a little, I decided I should put those skills that I hopefully gained in use and do a complete remix of one of my songs. The only one that is really finished and has vocals recorded. :p Here is the old mix...
