how about the KRK V4's? I'm on a budget (read, I'm poor). Does anybody know if these are any good? I've been reading as much as possible on this board on monitors, and I think I've come to the conclusion I just need to save some money. I can spend about $300 on monitors, maybe a little more...
I've been looking at getting another large diaphram, and I've been looking at the A-51. At 8thstreet they have a package with an SC-1 for $199. Does anybody know anything about this mic? I may just go ahead w/ it, because it says it comes w/ a shockmount, and the A-51 w/ a shockount is the...
I have been using a studio 24, and I'm happy with it. it was definitely inexpensive. Right now you can buy the studio 32 for 600 bucks on musicians friend, and i'd say that it is worth at least that much.

the only thing (i'm a student-kinda poor) I have to compare the homemade mics to are SM-57s and 58s and a Peavey PVR-1. They are not anything like 57 or 58s. I think they are better ambient "room" mics than the PVR I got for $50 used. They are kind of treblely, but that is able to be overcome...
I got a couple of emails about these mics, so i put together a (ugly, yet funcional) web page to explain everything. you can get to it at

if there are questions about the page email me: dutle@nku.edu
is the alesis nanoverb a decent reverb box for vocals? it is definitetly within my price range, and I am not asking for too uch from it. I just want that little bit more on vocals that reverb provides. (and I am addicted to buying gear)

I don't know how many people that read this BBS read tape op magazine, but in the last(?) issue they had a way to make homemade mics. Two of the parts in it had to be ordered on the internet, but most were attainable at Radio Shack and a hardware store. They cost around $20 a peice and they...
I may be mistaken, but most tapes (i believe TDK is included) use pretty much the same thickness after 60 min tapes. So 90 min tapes are thinner than 60, but 30 are the same thickness as 60.
is he mixing from the line out? If so, it only sends groups one and two, so when he mixes to stereo make sure all the tracks are selected as 1/2, rather than 3/4.
I can possibly get one for around $400 US. Right now i'm checking if it is in good condition. I looked on the internet and found hardly anything about it. Could you send me some URLs or starting points to find some stuff?

does anyone know anything about or possible have used a fostex a8 8-track reel-to-reel? I might be able to get one for relatively cheap and i was wondering if they are decent machines. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
