what kind of headphones are acceptable for monitoring

They're as bad as speakers. With both, loud is loud. Whether you use headphones or speakers, if you listen too loud, you WILL impair your hearing. Still, I like my music really loud...

    help me decide

If you don't care about the Fender box, then pick either one. The low (under) wattage is guaranteed to fry your Fender box in a couple of months, especially if your band is loud. If you just want a momentary solution, go for it. And save to invest in a good PA in a year or so.

    Active or Passive Monitors

Here is my take on this... 1) A separate amp gives you more flexibility. Buying quality $1500 passive monitors and a $500 amp now and then switching to a nice $5000 Classé amp in a couple of years yields more return on your initial investment than buying $2000 active monitors. 2) Speaker...

    My new monitoring set up...

Wow! Nice to see some people over here still have TASTE for ACTUAL speakers rather than $300 POS active NEARFIELDS... Nice McIntosh amp and very nice speakers indeed. I dunno why, but I guess they sound better than Wharfeshits?

If you own Behringer gear ...

Well, the audiance has changed too. We are not in the 70's anymore. Today's artists are successful for one or two years - maybe five if very popular then they become anonymous. People like change and this is the way the game is played. I am aware of that and this is why I have studied to have a...

If you own Behringer gear ...

Well, it all comes down to what you want to be...a bedroom and small gig player or a popular band. We want to be popular and we take the means to do it. Where we are different than others is in the music we play, but the sound and mix has to be competitive,

If you own Behringer gear ...

Well, listen to all the pop/rock/alternative/metal bands on the radio today. They all sound like drum machines and this is the sound one SHOULD be aiming for to get popular and mainstream sounding.

Well, out of curiosity, why do you need active monitoring? Passive monitoring is fine as far as I'm concerned.

Has anyone heard the M-Audio BX8s?

Glad you found the tool that suits you best ;) 1) My ears never ring 2) I can mix at night and whenever I want 3) I don't have all that trouble with the RTA So I stick with the headphones until I pay someone to build myself a perfect tuned room and buy myself some energy veritas coupled to a...

Has anyone heard the M-Audio BX8s?

If I write a story using the "mirror", the story still has to be appealing to the masses or the book will not sell, regardless of how it was written. A loud mix is competitive, no matter HOW you mixed or what you used to mix. Sometimes you have to follow the trends facing competition, otherwise...

Has anyone heard the M-Audio BX8s?

Well this board is meant as an exchange of opinions, methods and ways of thinking. Also, about the "RMS to compete" part, I disagree. It is a reality in today's music and it's much easier to defend than headphone mixes since the PRO mastering stuff do it :P If I master my band's demo at...

If you own Behringer gear ...

Actually, many drummers, including mine, like when they sound like machines! And I'm glad it wasn't Behringer, since I admitted it sounded good :p

If you own Behringer gear ...

Well, you definitely have good mixing skills going on. Certainly, these skills seem to be on par with Ford Van, definitely in the "quite a pro" league. If I had to be picky, I'd say the common weakness in all your mixes are the drums, but that could be due to a personnal preference. On some...
