Tascam 788: noisy drives; is this normal?

Yep, a lot of drives do vibrate considerably, but it could be normal. You'll have to decide if it's too much or not. ZipZoom would RMA you a new one no problem. If you decide to, tell them that you called Maxtor Support and they said it may be defective. Glad it's working out. I did break...

HOLY CRAP!!! Tascam introduces the 2488!!!

Looks nice. Too bad Tascam won't sell me one without a user support forum. Looks like they gambled and invested in new products to generate new sales, at the expense of satisfied dedicated consumers. I think Yamaha will get my next sale.

Tascam 788: noisy drives; is this normal?

I went to Maxtor.com and was still able to find the Fireball 3 at: http://www.maxtor.com/en/products/ata/desktop/fireball_3/index.htm , but you're right, that doesn't mean that any of the major vendors are still stocking it. Larger and larger drives have become the norm for most desktop...

Tascam 788: noisy drives; is this normal?

yep, www.zipzoomfly.com is a good vendor. They used to be known as www.googlegear.com I've had good experiences with them. www.newegg.com is also one of my top choices.

    tascam 788

2.02 was the last I heard. If 2.10 was ever available, I would have liked to have had it. Here's Tascam's last known link regarding versions: http://www.tascamcontractor.com/788_files/FAQs/FAQ_788_firmware_updates.html

Tascam 788: noisy drives; is this normal?

I guess I did so much investigating last year because I wanted my 788 to last a while. I was concerned that if heat destroyed the unit over time that Tascam might be far removed from their ability to repair it for me. Looking at Tascam's current position, perhaps my fears are validated. I...

Tascam 788: noisy drives; is this normal?

These drives are noisy and most 788 users are aware of the drive noise problems. Without a fan like a PC, the drive noise is really the only noise you hear, so it's tough to ignore. That 7.5 to 10 GB swap may have been performed before the OS was upgraded. There are limits to what size drive...

has Tascam COMPLETELY abandoned the "Portastudio" concept??

I guess I have to wonder how much of an issue portability really is. It's great to know we can take our 788s out without too many supporting elements, but how many users really do? Maybe the research indicates that most users bury their portastudios behind mixers and cables and other...

    788 Master Tutorial video

I like it. It's good to see someone else going through the motions. The 788 is a powerful tool and I like watching how to get around it.

    harddrive for 788

Here's what I'm using now. I tried (you won't believe it) about 12 different drives trying to improve performance, price, size, noise and temp. http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=100658 If you want a 60GB, try...

    UP GRADE QUESTION for 788

Wow, that would be great. Perhaps I'm mistaken and shouldn't have commented without being better informed. That would make the upgrade permanent and you wouldn't need the CD again. In that case, there would be no difference. We need Larry Robinson. I'm headed to cMoore and the 788 Refugees...

    UP GRADE QUESTION for 788

I'd rather have the EPROM hardware upgrade. Otherwise, you have to keep that upgrade CD non-corrupted and reload it any time you have a further system config crisis. If you can get your EPROM out of Tascam you're lucky. Stay on top of the situation. Get the name and extension of anyone you...

    788->computer->CD-R

DaveDrummer, you may be biting off too much of the learning curve at once. Each of your questions requires a thorough response in itself. Do you have the Tascam CDRW-788 Burner? If not, you might want to get one and start with that. It's half the cost of Sonar or CoolEdit, and you'll get...

    Tascam Forums Update

It is amazing that there is no phone number to contact them on their web site. This is either a major oversight or the wave of the future as companies continue to eliminate traditional customer communication. I did find a phone number under the jobs listing links and also noted a position...

    Tascam Forums Update

Re: Hell Yeah, It's still agreat machine! I did the same thing. The hard drive space makes much more sense to me in my PC. I left a 40GB HD in my 788 and I'll probably never fill it up. It doesn't make sense to back up everything on the 788 disc because it is less efficient than a PC.
